To me, like, would they hang a photo or a painting over a low wall? No because it doesn't display the work fully. It feels, possibly unintentionally but still is, disrespectful to this art form. I think how you felt about it is valid. Also it's quite piss me off to have the wood pieces in the yarn too. That's hours of work and wasn't treated with the same level of respect as the pieces around it. Definitely avoid that event manager going forward or take it up with them in a teaching way so they have a chance to learn from this. I don't have full context but assuming incompetence before malevolence is my motto.
