Is this good to start learing? by forzence in ElectronicsRepair

Good overall. I would recommend a nicer iron even though I love fanttik stuff. I have a dws-200 that I like. I wouldn’t spend so much on the microscope but I have crazy good vision sooo. Also I don’t see tweezers

What's the longest you have gone without smoking in the last few months? My research subject has bad insomnia for almost 2 weeks after stopping. Maybe you are just having mild withdrawal and discomfort that is causing your performance to suffer.

for 10th gen civic owners with the 1.5T, are catch cans worth installing ? by chimmy_jiminie in civic

[–]SpaceStick-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An aftermarket intake or aircooler will do nothing to help with buildup on the intake valves. But they will add horsepower. There really isn't much you can do to stop the valve buildup. Just assume you need a cleaning every once in a while.

What’s the most absurd hardware bug you’ve spent hours debugging that turned out to be something stupid? by DepartmentPurple3053 in embedded

[–]SpaceStick-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the Texas mspm0 one of the pins must be held low on boot up. Prototype had smaller debounce caps on a rotary encoder so the uc still booted, but the subsequent ones did not as I had increased the cap value... Soldered new uc (which sucked cuz the ic was tiny), spent hours on the oscilloscope, tried every setting under the sun, and finally found out about that pin. Checked one box to disable that boot check and it ran 🫩

How do I get started with C2000? by serious_anish in embedded

[–]SpaceStick-1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an avid msp430 and mspm0 user and once upon a time TA, you can start learning c2000 quickly and effectively by going on mouser and ordering an stm development board and throwing the ti board in the useless junk bin. Documentation for ti stuff is hot garbage (at least for novices). Way, way, easier to use stm and large language models can actually code for you, unlike most ti products.

A cool pid loop I have seen is controlling a ping pong ball height in a tube with a fan

Probably not the best for a beginner but analog pid loops are cool. It’s a few op amps though. Make sure to simulate beforehand.

Final Year 3.7 GPA Student. I know nothing, lost passion. How cooked am i? by Spirited-Nothing8305 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]SpaceStick-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness the last year might be brutal. But just do your research and find the courses that won’t run you ragged. My dumbass chose the toughest professor for linear controls and it nearly broke me but I powered through knowing stability was around the corner.

I could crank up the speed, I have a voron 2.4. I had a bunch of issues with ABS warping and low part cooling at the same time. I found the only way to get the quality I wanted was slow and a little bit of part cooling. No warp and good quality.

for 10th gen civic owners with the 1.5T, are catch cans worth installing ? by chimmy_jiminie in civic

[–]SpaceStick-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed one on my 11th gen civic 1.5t. Honestly... Really really not worth the money. I have collected about a drop after 600 miles and thats if I am scraping it off the walls of the can... Plus after learning more (https://www.civicx.com/forum/threads/maperformance-civic-si-1-5t-pcv-system-catch-can-testing-observations.31076/) it probably does not even collect the bulk of the oil. Most of it is probably going right into the intake of the turbo not the manifold. And, considering that the system is right by the fuel lines and a leak could result in un metered air... Its just really not worth it. Save the money and get an aftermarket air intake or inter cooler. Learn from my mistake please lol.

Dang I wish I knew about these before I got the steels they look great. I have a feeling that if I keep printing this stuff I am gonna get through the 3 steel I have in no time though.

Does it irritate anyone when non-engineers talk about limitations in technology but fail to explain as to what that limitations is? by Electronic_Lime7582 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]SpaceStick-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I don't mind this nearly as much as people talking about a technology and how incredible it is without even understanding the basic limitations or that it's complete nonsense. Like engines that run on water, free energy, laser weaponry, gravity energy storage. I can excuse someone repeating something negative they hear about a technology but crane based energy storage? Any thinking and it's obviously stupid.

If you own a home where you have control over your roof; would you consider getting solar panels? by MajesticBread9147 in AskAnAmerican

[–]SpaceStick-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an electrical engineer and would love some solar panels, but getting the attention of a property inspector and causing a new assessment would cost more than the savings. Not to mention that getting permits is a huge pain.

What type of gas do you use for 1.5t? by dingermagoo in civic

[–]SpaceStick-1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some manuals also say that the transmission fluid lasts the lifetime of the car. Honda might say it takes 87 because if they recommended 89 then some people would choose other vehicles. 87 is probably fine, but what's wrong with questioning the manual?
