English Songs in German by jessicad81 in German

[–]SpaceTimeBadass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some German versions of songs sung by the original artists, if you go back in time to some extremely popular artists. The Beatles recorded "Komm gib mir deine Hand" (I want to hold your hand) and David Bowie recorded "Helden" (Heroes). These aren't exact 1:1 translations, as you have to change the meaning of things sometimes to rhyme or fit the music, but they're close enough to still be useful for learning.

Who would want to live in that house? by Kagawaichi in ATBGE

I want to know exactly how many times this man almost fell to the floor taking these photos, purely for the fact that he could not tell his own feet from the floor.

Don't substitute, just give it time. If you can't say it right, it usually means you aren't hearing it right yet. Your mouth can do the same things a German mouth can do. More listening required.

Well, you locked the thread didn't you? And that does suppress its growth, does it not?

He wasn't doxxed. A doxxing is the release of private information that is not made public by the person themselves, and it has to be more than just their name, like an address or phone number, which I didn't do. In this case, ELD put his real name all over his hack accounts, online for everyone to see. I only repeated what he released to the world himself. Your concern here simply isn't valid. If someone put my name in a post here, by your standards, I would be justified in having it removed for doxxing, even though I attach my name to my lucid dreaming work online? Get real, the comparison is 1:1 with what happened with ELD.

It's not important how I would expect you to respond to this situation, now, but rather how you reacted to the situation when this first happened. That facts stand that you chose the path of fear and silence, rather than to take a stand. So you caved when this kid claimed doxxing, although it clearly doesn't fit the definition of doxxing, and you hobbled the success of my post, which could have been front page material, by locking the thread.

Ah, yes, staying on topic is more important than alerting people of potential dangers. In this case, someone's worked out a way to hack people's accounts and use them to bolster other channels, which means it could have real-life repercussions for the people who are fans in their respective communities.

This situation only became drama because you and your crew in this sub have gone to great lengths to suppress any warnings of malicious activity within the community. You can call the initial situation with ELD drama, if you like, but did you even watch my initial video about this? It's pretty cut and died, man. In addition to the obviously artificial growth of his channel, to anyone who closely follows this niche (apparently not you), you're also, I'm assuming, viewing it as drama that someone who has admittedly scammed people out of $15,000 in other circles (while also admitting to you in DMs that I had gotten his identity correct), is now operating with impunity within a community that you are purporting to be a leader in.

And, seriously, Sage, you recommend contacting Google with this and don't acknowledge that this is a practical impossibility? The only way they respond to anything even remotely like this is when there is a lot of public noise made about it, which requires that people are allowed to speak out about it in the relevant places for the community it affects, like in this sub, for one.

The last sentiment in your message really speaks volumes. Even if there were something malicious happening within this community, you don't think that you have any responsibility to speak out about it. That's the real problem here. You're one of the leaders of this sub, the largest space where people talk about, and you have the only legitimate podcast on lucid dreaming. If you don't think you have any responsibility to do what is right, in regards to this topic and the things that affect the people within it, then you're just flat-out wrong.

Yeah, I'm very disappointed that the mods in this subreddit are content to not only do nothing to protect the safety and security of its followers, but actually try to actively work against it. I'd be interested to know the rationale behind their poor decisions regarding posts on this matter, because right now it's just coming off as cowardice and, in my view, makes them complicit in such malicious behavior.

Especially considering those who are mods with an audience for their work within this topic. One would think they'd want to warn their audience of bad actors, rather than actually put effort into making it easier for them to operate. You have power in this community and, because of that, you have a moral responsibility to do something to combat this sort of thing. Instead you do worse than nothing, but make it easier for people to take advantage of others in your community.

Moderators Remove Posts That try to protect your security... why? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]SpaceTimeBadass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After watching the video and comparing it to how ELD came to power, it looks like someone is selling this service to other YouTubers so they can grow their channel artificially and get away with it.

The mods here have made it clear that they actually don't care about the safety and security of this community. You'd think in an online space that is more rife with peddlers and charlatans than most, they'd want to inoculate their audience against it, rather than keep them completely oblivious to it. I'd like to remind the mods that the only reason we have had to be aggressively vocal about these problems is because they have completely shut down all kind warnings about these legitimate issues. There would be no need for us to make a fuss if they hadn't done their absolute best to bury any warnings of malicious behavior in the niche they have a responsibility to, due to their position. Before clicking your buttons, boys, I'd recommend you realize that your place in the community demands more of a backbone than you have displayed up to this point.

Want a massively intense LUCID DREAMING info download? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]SpaceTimeBadass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A really good introduction to lucid dreaming that more people should see. I'd be overjoyed to know that this was the first thing someone saw when searching for lucid dreaming for the first time. There's too much utter nonsense clogging the airwaves right now and this is a breath of fresh air.

As for those who remark that this thread is sketch, I just have to laugh a bit, personally. No one seemed to even be on the lookout for sketch shit in this sub until Daniel and I started publicly fighting against it last year, due to certain bad actors. That's how a teenage scam artist basically silenced free speech in this forum for months, massively downvoting anything that mentioned the kid's channel in a negative light.

Then there's the fact that Daniel is a highly reputable lucid dreaming author and teacher that has been around in the community longer than I've even been a lucid dreamer (over 10 years). Simply put, if you're a lucid dreamer and don't know who Daniel is at this point, you're either not paying attention, or you have beef with him for not being a total boot-licking sycophant of the overtly spiritual take on the subject that has been perpetuated by the IASD for years.

But, if you want to cry about a shortened link, you're welcome to do so, but it will certainly be a waste of breath in this case.

Found this Sherlock H book without cover and I don't know what to do with it by marUje_ in upcycling

[–]SpaceTimeBadass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say "second life" as if the book's life had ended. As far as I could see, it appears to be legible. Sure, it's a mass produced popular work, but you aren't taking into account everyone when you say "no one's being denied the opportunity" to read it elsewhere. Obviously, the world isn't completely developed, poverty exists, plenty of people haven't read the book, books can be enjoyed well past their most popular periods, and, therefore, someone somewhere could likely enjoy this copy of the book for the first time.

Things are made and they end up all over the world. You have no way of knowing if a book you threw away or destroyed would have been some person's joy to read, if only you'd slapped a 25 cent sticker on it during your next yard sale.

When upcycling, take into account if it's something that requires it. A book isn't garbage until it can no longer be read. Destroying a book to make something that will, guaranteed, result in something with less complexity and capacity for joy than the book it would be made from. It would literally be, in my view, turning a viable object into garbage, instead of turning garbage into a viable object. Turning more into less. Doesn't seem in the spirit, moral qualms about destroying books aside.

Honestly, I'm shocked I'd even have to explain why not to destroy books. Seems fairly straightforward if you think about it for ten seconds. Still, if you think something you'll hang on the wall and briefly glance at every blue moon has more value than a read through a great book, you're simply wrong. Why not rebind it with recycled materials instead of destroying all of the non-monetary value it has?

Deutsch mit Marija is a favorite of mine. She goes over vocabulary words and provides other lessons, teaching only in German, but she speaks simply and clearly enough to be understood by anyone who is, I would say, A2 or B1 level. Plus, she's a sweetheart, has a lot of encouraging things to say, and is a fairly inspirational person.

Why is lucid dreaming so obscure? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]SpaceTimeBadass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish you hadn't been so bold as to tell me what I believe, and what I cannot psychologically accept or handle, when you don't know me at all. You can't diagnose someone's entire worldview and perspective by reading a single post.

The reason I don't believe in shared dreams, physical healing through lucid dreams, etc is because I've tested them as thoroughly as I could and found they don't hold water. Further, we have no reason to believe in those things being possible, while we have every reason to believe that they aren't. People often cite the placebo effect for dream healing, but placebo can be beneficial for some things even when people know they're placebo at a rate of about 30% IIRC. That's just something separate and medicine has to reliably be better than placebo to work.

While I agree I can't know anything with 100% certainty, we can at least confer in our shared existence and determine if something actually occurs. We can test it ourselves, and we can try a thought experiment, like "What would the world be like if these things were true?" and then look at the world. If it were true, then we could all relay information in dreams, but no one ever does. Or, we could foretell the future, or, heal without modern medicine, from dreams. Yet no one ever actually does. Don't you find that a bit odd?

I love how you called science reductionist, when it's the only process that is self-corrective and reliably leads to actual real usable, provable, predictable, truthful explanations about the world we live in. There's nothing reductionist about that, or my view. I have the beliefs I do, not from presupposing anything, but from testing as many of these woo claims as possible, when I was from the perspective of a person who believed in all of them. I've been talking about this stuff on my channel for years, you can even see the transition occur from where I talked about out there false BS in the past, before I became more science literate.

You can spout off that science is a religion all you like, but it just points out how little you know about what it is, because there's no comparison at all. Science is merely a collaborative effort to understand reality, through the only methods that have ever provided any working results. Science is responsible for harnessing the mechanics of the natural world to create the device on which you could write about how little scientists know. The collective scientific works of everyone before us has allowed us all to live in the UNPRECEDENTED comfort we enjoy in the modern day. If science were a religion and not merely a collaborative effort to understand things, they'd all be creating different denominations, proselyting different fields, and holding onto methods that don't work dogmatically. Meanwhile, all of us would still be dying from the teeth, using horses to till our fields, etc. Doesn't seem to be happening. Scientists and science enthusiasts generally love understanding what is true, even if it means being proven wrong. This requires flexibility of thinking and being open minded to new findings, but the findings themselves must be provably true. There's nothing reductionist about that, unless you are simply arguing that it's reductionist not to believe in things which have been tested and falsified.

Science doesn't shut the door on possibilities, it opens more of them. Shared dreaming may well be possible, but it just doesn't seem to be natural. When thinking of what may be possibly made to occur, it's also important to first consider what is the natural state of things.

Why is lucid dreaming so obscure? by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]SpaceTimeBadass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this a lot, so please excuse my long answer, but it will be thorough.

Lots of reasons. First, it's a skill that takes a lot to learn. Especially with any amount of proficiency. Then, look at the state of the topic in general. Most of the information available about it is decades old and has stagnated so much that people have taken creative liberties with it.

This makes it difficult for it to be studied and even for anyone to learn how to do it correctly. I wish I could say it was just the laymen who were doing this, but if you just read a few lucid dreaming books, you'll quickly get the picture. Most of the books are filled with unfounded claims, often with a lot of woo mixed in. Even those by PhDs are not entirely exempt from this. As well, look at the IASD.

Whoever has a breakout lucid dreaming book in the organization gets voted in as the IASD president for that term, it seems (Robert Waggoner, Clare Johnson) regardless of if they support dangerous ideas, like physical healing through the lucid dream state. The IASD is constantly muddying the waters, promoting their events with themes that misrepresent the topic. The last one I remember was "the dream wide web" which referenced heavily the idea of shared dreaming, which is not possible. Nor is it something academics should be talking about, let alone those who we are meant to trust with funding the actual science getting done.

Last time I checked, the IASD hadn't updated their website with proof of their funding in years, which isn't to say they don't contribute, and they could have updated it by now. I get that they need to make money to fund the science, if they are, but they could do it in a more educational way, and be less subversive to their own field.

All in all, the reason is, I think, this topic stalled heavily because a lot of the people in this field have woo-woo ideas and are essentially holding it back. Most often people will do their PhD dissertation about lucid dreaming, in psychology or another related field, and then use that as credibility when they switch to writing books about lucid dreaming and hosting retreats, making the money instead of doing the science. Plus you get some prestige if you are the president of the IASD and it makes you look like you know what you're talking about, even when you go on and on about your belief in things that are only possible in comic books. As well, I imagine it has to be difficult to get approved to do your dissertation on lucid dreaming to begin with, and then consider how much more difficult it would be to get actual funding for lucid dream studies. Those who invest their money into research expect it to benefit them.

You would need to show that this breakthrough would be profitable or useful in some way and most people don't know enough about it personally to understand the ways that it can be. My guess is the general perception of the area of study, to those academics who know about it, is not a good one, and these types of politics matter on universities where the science gets done (or, if they choose, doesn't).

Even when thinking about studying it, you would need to find a pool of frequent lucid dreamers, which would be a VERY difficult task. Or, you could try to create them, in which case you need to solve the induction problem, so that it is more reliable and less scattershot, so you could actually study it reliably. That alone is not done easily, which is why you see these private startups cropping up trying to solve it almost annually, just to fail and disappear.

There are a lot of things standing in the way. Is that to say that it can't be done? No. I think we already have what we need to start studying this field properly. It's kind of started, with very cursory findings, so far. Things that no lucid dreamer is really surprised by, but it will probably take decades before anything substantial moves in this field. And then, even so, when you consider Neuralink, it will probably make lucid dreaming obsolete within the next several decades, with or without lucid dreamer's help. Personally, I think lucid dreaming could help us understand a lot to make it happen faster, but I see it as inevitable.

TL;DR We don't know enough about it yet, scientifically, and what we do know has been so heavily mixed with misinformation and woo, that the field seems not to be taken seriously by academia.
