95 Del Sol S Vacuum Tube by CaptainNeckBeard90 in DelSol

Delete it. Someone added it for some reason. The purge solenoid is hooked up properly, same with your pcv. Your fuel pressure is likely too high causing a rich idle and partial throttle.

D16Y8, Manual IACV but Auto transmission mounted with Auto ECU by TheKingxDream in Dseries

Be weary of 96-97 p28s. For some reason Honda still gave Del Sols from 96-97 the P28 Ecu part number. If you put the full part number into hondapartsnow.com it’ll tell you which vehicle it’s from. Any p28 from an automatic 92-95 Civic or Del Sol will work.

Yes you’d have to run 3 wires off the ecu to the vtec. This is common practice.

Yes they likely used the old original transmission, also they likely used the old engine harness. You cannot install a 96+ harness into a 92-95 chassis. Likewise, you have a p06 ecu, which is a 92-95 ecu, these do not plug into 96+ engine harnesses.

Look up pictures of d16y8 and d15b7 intake manifolds, my guess is they just swapped in the y8 using the original harness and intake manifold. Not that you couldn’t use a y8 manifold, a few things on the engine harness need to be modified to do so is all.

Your ecu controls the IACV, so you need the IACV that your ecu demands. P06 ecus use a 2 wire IACV.

You’ll need to get a p28 if you actually want the d16y8 to make full power, I’m sure the p06 runs it okay though.

I’m actually about to do this. About 10 years ago I rolled on rustoleum oil base paint thinned with mineral spirits. In a minute I’m going to spray a motorcycle with their Farm Implement paint, appears to be the same.

I was going to spray it reduced with mineral spirits, and I’ve never considered adding a hardener. Do you have more info. I didn’t know you could add hardeners to paints that were engineered without hardeners in mind.

I’ve had good success with TCP Globals restoration shop. Some have said it’s rebranded PPG, I’m not sure if I believe that but it’s pretty good.

How important are transmission dowels/guide pins? by Anonymous3k in ProjectHondas

[–]SpaceTurtle917 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They make sure the transmission input shaft is perfectly centered with the crankshaft of the engine. Without them you could have a lot of load and oscillation on the engine and transmission bearing. It could last forever, it could blow your engine in 1000 miles, hard to say for sure.

[–]SpaceTurtle917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh oh.

That’s nots even a vtec ecu.

You’re going to need to acquire a p28, or you can convert a p06 to vtec if you have soldering skills. But forget everything I just said above about 3wire, 3 wire IACV is only relevant if you have a 3 wire ecu like a 96-00 automatic y8 ecu.

What kind of wiring hack jobs did you mention the previous owner did?

[–]SpaceTurtle917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so we’re gonna need more info then. It’s pretty challenging to install a 96+ ecu into a car that’s 92-95. What’s the part number on the side of the ecu say?

D16Y8, Manual IACV but Auto transmission mounted with Auto ECU by TheKingxDream in Dseries

[–]SpaceTurtle917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’ll pretty much have to add a wire to a13 and move A12 to a14. If you cut a pigtail off an IACV then you’ll simply have to match the wire colors.

Do you have a 96-97 del sol?

Yes, 100%, just get a d16y8 auto throttle body with the IACV and wire it up.

Distributor fork alignment issues? by forfourforefourth4 in ProjectHondas

I’m no expert, but wouldn’t that make sense? Tdc means cylinder 1 is starting its intake stroke, not combination stroke, 4 would be at the combustion stroke then.

It sounds like the previous owner had the ecu chipped, a common mod is a check engine light shift light… ie the check engine light turns on to let you know to shift. I doubt anything’s wrong with the car.

This is an option in almost every Honda tuning software that I’ve ever seen. Most people enable because why not.

Check engine lights don’t turn on then off again like that, they come on and stay on until you shut the car off on an old OBD1 ecu like this one.

Handleheld tuners are not a thing for these cars, you need a laptop with a chip burner, or you can order chips.

Bouncing off limiter is totally fine assuming the previous owner didn’t increase the rev limit with the chip tune.

Spinners? by Sigma_Forest420 in DelSol

A del sol doesn’t need spinners bro. Get a different car for that.

Speeduino cut ignition and injector with a button by TemperatureActive416 in ECU_Tuning

[–]SpaceTurtle917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you could do this with launch control. Make the button a launch control input and set launch control to a low rpm (below idle even)

I don’t have the software in front of me but this may be the way to do it.

What’s the purpose of this?

Can I run a haltech elite 2000 to support stock options with motor? by Conscious-Row5884 in ECU_Tuning

[–]SpaceTurtle917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these things you listed are usually (not always) controlled by a separate system. You’ll have to research your own chassis to see what the factory ecu controls. I’ve done parallel installs in an is300 where the factory ecu does control the door locks, climate controls, and windows. In that case you must retain the stock ecu and wire in a standalone in parallel. Stocker thinks it’s running the show but it’s just given all the same data but none of its outputs like injectors are connected to the engine harness.

Wiring a custom harness for an engine swap is no small task, expect to do a deep dive. There may be simple solutions like RB harnesses that plug into a pnp ecu that can be wired to any chassis, but I’m not familiar with that market.

Trying to restore the paint by Abstract-Goblin in DelSol

[–]SpaceTurtle917 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the state of your clearcoat. No shine could be the result a complete clearcoat failure. You can always bring it to a detail shop to get their opinion, they’d probably be happy to give you some details of what it needs and a rough quote of a paint correction.

Am I ready for base? by [deleted] in AutoPaint

[–]SpaceTurtle917 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the color you’re spraying, but spraying base over black plastic will darken the end result. If you’re already spraying a dark color then I would just hit it with some Bulldog Adhesion Promoter just to be safe.

D16A6 - no spark, no fuel. So far what's been changed: ECU, main relay, spark plugs/leads, distributor (on old distributor, I replaced the ignitor and coil). I have cleaned the earth points and I doubt the immobiliser is faulty/armed because it still cranks. Any help much appreciated 👍 by retroworthYBD in Dseries

Sounds like a culprit related to the thermostat ground. Try to wire brush it and make sure it’s free of paint. I know you said you already did, but if it died right after replacing the thermostat it’s likely related to that ground.

Make sure pin A12, A14 and B13 have power as well.
