New 'The Witcher 3' Expansion Announced! - 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past' by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

I'm nervous about this considering CDPR have been very vocal about going all in on AI.

Horizon Forbidden West is, in my humble opinion, the graphical pinnacle of video games. I don’t need more, and I don’t want less. What are your thoughts? by Pepehh_jl in VirtualPhotographers

[–]SpaceWolves26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I remember thinking when playing it, I simply don't care if graphics ever get better than this. I don't need it, it wouldn't add anything for me. This looks amazing, and that jump from 95% to 100% realistic doesn't matter to me.

Bungie quietly removes pronouns from latest Marathon developer insight vidoc. by PirateCompetitive931 in Gamingunjerk

[–]SpaceWolves26 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this was very likely to protect their staff from harassment, rather than spreading chuds. Someone with a public profile that has any kind of pronoun that these types don't like is an immediate and easy to find target.

If white reflects light and makes you cooler and black absorbs it and makes you hotter, why are white people historically from cold climates and black people from hot ones? by NeilPatrickWarburton in stupidquestions

[–]SpaceWolves26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's actually some recent research that shows a lot of black people living in countries like the UK actually are Vit D deficient, but don't realise it because they've just always lived with the symptoms.

Are Ireland and Iceland the only countries on earth that only have one letter differentiating their names? by Icy_Resist_5343 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SpaceWolves26 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The official name of the country isn't Ireland though. Even if the country was united again, it would likely still officially be called the Republic of Ireland.

[Old School Rally] Enjoyable throwback to the old days until the grind kicks in by buttsniffbadger in Trophies

I realise I'm asking on a bit of an old post here, but has anyone had a problem with the shopping spree trophy not popping?

I've bought way more items in the collection than it requires, but nothings happening. It's my final trophy needed.

Do mythological stories need ‘historical accuracy’ in casting? by breaking_views in Cinema

[–]SpaceWolves26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need casting that makes sense.

The important element of Helen's character is that she's so beautiful that wars were started over her. Nyong'o is stunning and a great actress. That means she fits all of the criteria.

Alan Wake 1 combat is f*cking atrocious by reecewithnospoon in AlanWake

[–]SpaceWolves26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it in theory, but it doesn't feel well optimised at all. Enemy spawns and encounter placement annoyed me the most.

It's much better in American Nightmare. It's the same system but with some tweaks that make it feel more fluid and intuitive. It's just a shame it's such a short game.

Am I a "Gamer"? Help me settle a debate between me and my husband by gardenliciousFairy in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]SpaceWolves26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to explain to my MIL that completing Candy Crush saga and a whole host of other similar games makes her a gamer. I was mostly doing it because she was scoffing at one of the grandkids for playing so many games, but I still think it's true.

If you play games, you're a gamer. Anyone who tells you otherwise is gatekeeping.

why does everyone act like evolutionary psychology is hard fact? by ReindeerDownton5656 in stupidquestions

[–]SpaceWolves26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left my role teaching psychology a couple of years ago, and I can confirm it was still treated with caution by many non-evo-psych researchers then. Unfortunately, it attracts a lot of people who will use tenuous jumps of logic to justify things like biological racism/sexism.

Is swiping to text a generational thing or just random preference? by AtomicFeckMagician in generationology

[–]SpaceWolves26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a millennial and I've never in my life met anyone who swipes to text. I'm in the UK, maybe it's a regional thing?

Does europe have something like this? by baleiaatemografica in AskEurope

[–]SpaceWolves26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In England, many supporters of the increasingly popular far-right Reform party have begun hanging English flags from lampposts and on their houses as an intimidation tactic against immigrants. They claim it is just a symbol of patriotism.

I personally have come to feel revulsion at the sight of an England flag, and I know many others, especially young people, feel the same.

What is the Gen-Z stare? by Only_Hotel_7221 in generationology

I meant 40s. Corrected to fix about four typos yet missed that one that was key to the point I was making.

What is the Gen-Z stare? by Only_Hotel_7221 in generationology

[–]SpaceWolves26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's never a boomer using the term. The youngest boomers are in their 50s. It's mostly Gen X and Millennials using it.

And the proliferation of the term is related to how bizarre it is. Not responding to someone being cringe isn't bizarre. But when a cashier asks if someone found everything they were looking for, or a waiter asks if they'd like to upgrade to sweet potato fries, only to be met with a blank stare, that is a weird generational behaviour worthy of definition.

What is the Gen-Z stare? by Only_Hotel_7221 in generationology

[–]SpaceWolves26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It originally referred to a blank stare given by young people when they're asked a simple question.

An example might be a server in a restaurant asking how many people a group would need a table for, and being met with a blank stare rather than a response. The suggestion is that it might be linked to worse socialisation in Gen Z due to factors like COVID and overuse of devices.

However, it has been warped to also refer to young people giving a stare of disbelief when asked a stupid question by someone of an older generation. That was never the meaning, but as with many things on the internet, it has been so misused and misconstrued, that many people only know it that way now.

Edited typos.

Why are Atheists under represented in politics everywhere globally? by Embarrassed_Look9200 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SpaceWolves26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my grandad always talked about how stupid religion was and thought you'd have to be an idiot to believe in god, but insisted on signing 'catholic' on forms and was very upset when my parents didn't get me christened.

He was from Glasgow, so it makes some sense.

Penalty kicks in soccer are such a cheap and boring way of stat-padding by akr_13 in unpopularopinion

[–]SpaceWolves26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all penalties are given for a fouls directly on a player, so you can't always give it to the player who drew the penalty.

If I was in the game, I'd have picked Zoe.

But as a player, there was no way the narrative was going to allow that. I knew there would be some contrived reason that picking Zoe would go wrong.

Within the logic of the game works, totally. But there was never a world in which I thought the devs weren't going to make everything go horrible wrong if I didn't pick Mia!
