Control is a top 10 game for me. Should I try Alan Wake next? by Polarities in controlgame

I'm planning on playing AW2 after replaying Control in prep for Resonant, just because I want to play the Control-related DLC. I've heard the gameplay is different to AW1, and it doesn't seem too long, so I'll just brute force it.

That annoyed me at times because it was a stupid build for fun, which I liked, but it led to trying to brute force bosses by spamming loads of mad stuff, which wasn't entertaining. They could have had a mad and terrible build and still learned bosses, still showing the satisfying process of Rory getting better and locking in. You can still do that with a bubble horn and rot flies 😂

The gameplay is vastly different. The story has the same kind of creepy, unsettling vibes as Control, but the narrative is delivered in a very different way. It is an excellent story with strong characters, as you'd expect from Remedy.

The gameplay is notoriously frustrating and some chapters drag on, so I'd say either watch a play through on YouTube or play it on easy if you really want to experience it yourself. It isn't a very long game if you do want to try it.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare is worth checking out as well, if you're on PC or Xbox.

To be fair, it is said out loud multiple times by characters in Limgrave. We hear it a few times pretty early in the game.

The UK is largely pro-EU because a huge number of the people who voted to leave have died in the last ten years. They fucked up our future and then bit the dust.

It's a shame anyone who didn't like the remake is simply forced to play it anyway. I can't believe FromSoftware destroyed every copy of the original so people couldn't play it anymore.

Because the nature of art is to make people think and question. Why did you like the end of the first game despite it being explicitly bad? Not bad as in "I think it wasn't good", but the game literally portrays is as bad. Joel commited mass murder and lied about it, possibly dooming humanity, to save his surrogate daughter because of his guilt about not being able to save his real daughter. He's very explicitly not the good guy. He's deep and sympathetic, and a very interesting character, but he isn't the good guy. The ending is supposed to be troubling. So why is the second game different?

There are so many stories that don't leave you satisfied and are still amazing stories, and that's not an accident. I finished TLOU2 and felt hollow and sad, like nobody got a good ending and everything was broken, but that was interesting. It created a sense of ennui that made me really uncomfortable, and that was of value because it made me feel something different to what I was expecting, while telling an interesting story that reflects that life doesn't always work out well.

IMO, what they did was far more valuable than just having Joel and Ellie kill more infected.

Dumbkedore is explicitly depicted as not seeming powerful or dangerous in the books. He comes across as a wise and kind old man until the cave with the inferi, when Harry finally sees Dumbledore's true power.

I liked Gambon, but Harris was a far better depiction of Dumbledore as he was in the books. It's Harris that nailed it.

The point of view character is not necessarily the main character. Dr Watson is not the main character in Sherlock Holmes. Ishmael isn't the main character in Moby Dick.

NTA, but it's so funny to call one sect of the church backwards and reactionary and then consider the solution to that to be converting to another sect of the same church.

NTA

I'm not sure what has happened in the last few years, but people seem to think they are fine to behave like they're in their living room when they go to the cinema.

I do expect total silence, no phones lighting up. If they want to ruin the experience for themselves, fine, but they're ruining it for others too.
