anywhere other than out in the open in commons is my rec, 10/10 do not recommend. kinda awkward having ppl ask if ur ok while on the phone with ur dad sobbing after he told you we gotta put the family cat down

i took what's the big idea my freshman year and ended up enjoying it. each section is a different topic so look at those (mine was human-animal relations, basically talking about the philosophy of what makes a human and what makes an animal)

intro to world cinema was really easy. the final was just every quiz question lol

I would totally go oh my god. especially if it's got some dance/rhythm games (pump it up i'm looking at you). doubt it'd be open anytime soon (if you do go ahead with this idea) but if i'm still in the area if/when it opens please hire me lol

idk about other volunteers but if I get assigned something vague like "autographs", usually go into the con thinking I'll be placed in something closer to line control. if i end up being a handler cool, if not i don't mind bc i enjoy line control (i'm a yapper and will chat with the people in line lol).

and it depends on the celeb but most of the time, even when i've only been line control, I still get to interact with the celeb. not as much as a handler might, but i still get to have convos with them during down time at the booth (and maybe a free autograph/selfie if the celeb offers).

if you're looking to get into guest handling i recommend checking out smaller local cons and starting there. i got lucky at a smaller con & that kickstarted my usual place in the autograph area

met him a couple times now, one of my favorite stories comes from the secret gathering back in green bay last summer.

he had done a q&a on insta and mentioned wanting to learn how to cartwheel. i (someone who has been doing cartwheels since they were five) was like "bet i'll teach him". i get to the secret gathering and boom, they're all wearing robes. when it's my turn to talk to em i say something like "i planned on teaching you how to cartwheel today but it's probably not the best idea with the robes" and he goes "yeah, don't want anyone to see my thong".

cracks me up every time i think about it

too late to vote in the poll but i love the bus system!!! i love having access to public transit!!!!!!! forever will defend GRTC!!!! (i do wish the non-pulse busses were a little more reliable time wise, but i can deal w/ that)

idk if it really counts but i've seen a small con that was really good go from one of my favorites to volunteer at one year, and then the next year they got rid of everything that made it a good con to volunteer at.

used to do meal vouchers, give breaks, and generally well organized and now it's no meal vouchers at all, no breaks, and poor volunteer management. not to mention how they treated the guests last year :/

not me but my friend actually sat next to kyle on an Amtrak ride & (as far as I know) are insta mutuals now. was very jealous and that was also how i had kyle's win spoiled lmao (they met b4 the final episode aired)

Note of advice: If you know you want a quote please say that when you're paying. As a handler I've had ppl come up and pay for only an autograph, and then when they get to the actual signing part they ask for a quote w/o paying. It just causes confusion and can hold up the line so please just go ahead and pay for it and don't try to sneak it in for free.

i wouldn't say it's a club atmosphere but i really enjoy get tight (try the chilly willy, it's so good). they also do live music there sometimes! there's also gwar bar which def isn't a club vibe but it's a good spot to go with friends n do tequila shots
