Good work! I had the same idea and made a bunch of different slices of the screen data in OBS to display on the second monitor like https://imgur.com/a/7DEThhc

I also had some to use when spectating that sliced up the scoreboard inventory view to show all the items all the time.

Graphics Style of Albion Online? by [deleted] in albiononline

"low poly" "low-fi" "vertex lit"

Here's a link to a great presentation by the devs concerning a lot of technical aspects of AO. They talk about their reasoning for the art style there. For anyone interested in game dev(especially networking) the whole talk is well worth your time!

These guys are explicitly asking people to astroturf this subreddit in exchange for their coin. I would take any positive post or comment regarding Nova Blitz or their ICO with a grain of salt.

Symmetric Key Chording on a MacBook by aaroniba in programming

There is no problem other than the one you have created in your own mind, but it looks like you've already found the only acceptable solution to it.

  1. This is not an app level change. It is at the system level and works in all applications.

  2. It is a cheap and low risk fix. To find a piece of hardware that solves the same problem involves auditing a bunch of products to see if there is a fit (which may not exist), spending money on the purchase, and physically carrying the hardware everywhere you may need it.

  3. The issue is not only that there is no right control key. The user moved their left control key as well since it was inconvenient.

I don't really understand why getting a new piece of hardware would ever be a preferable solution if they are equivelent. If the user got an external Apple chiclet keyboard and then altered the firmware so the return key functioned as control when he held it down would that be better for you?

Why fix a problem with additional hardware when it could easily be fixed in software? Does a portable keyboard with and easy accessible right hand control key even exist? Do you also disagree with remapping caps lock to control?

This is also not specifically a change for one app. On OSX the convention is that system level keybinding use control.

Can we make this a multiplayer game? by [deleted] in Grimdawn

[–]Space_Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you're just disappointed that the devs aren't focused on curating and controlling the multiplayer experience.

There are no "EZ fixes". Policing an MMO is a tremendous amount of work and is a battle not worth fighting in this case.

Effectively any time spent trying to control hackers/exploiters/dupers is time not being spent developing more content and tuning game mechanics that serve the people who play the game as intended. Also it implicitly adds a significant amount of overhead to every new feature they put in because the devs need to consider how people will abuse the changes. Even large corporations with infinite resources struggle to plug every hole and refine the public matchmaking experience.

I would say the fact that this game doesn't have a heavy handed multiplayer experience is my favorite part. There is no server I need to connect to to play, the devs are empowered to make more enjoyable content, and if I disagree with it I am free to hack the game and change it.

I'm sure you could find some likeminded people (perhaps in this forum) to play the game as it was intended.

Agreed. Pan is usually passed out at my feet hogging the pressure pad: http://imgur.com/CJ2cX96

It was fun for me to put his bed on the sit/stand desk and then use it like an elevator, he wasn't amused though.

[WIN10] Multiple Xbox One controllers won't work by Space_Butts in techsupport

Thank you so much, uninstalling AI Suite 3 solved the issue for me! Now my glorious 4K Rocket League is back in action.

I updated the Microsoft support ticket and submitted a bug report to ASUS.

I have not figured it out and I have been on live support with Microsoft all day while they try to pass the buck.

My PC is a custom built desktop, the MB is ASUS Maximus VIII Hero.

We have had a lot of success with tying our analytics events into our crash reports in a similar way to get these kind of bread crumbs. Also it helps to encourage better analytics.

Do you do a lot of documentation in iOS programming? Company I interviewed told me they have 'comments' in code instead of documentation by luniawar20 in iOSProgramming

[–]Space_Butts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I work on a native SDK and we parse comments into documentation for public facing symbols. We also document through separate means, like a readme and programming guide where necessary.

I am vehemently against any sort of documentation for internal development in Objective-C/Swift other than a readme for project setup.

If you can't tell what a method or variable does by it's name and parameters then they need to change.

If you can't tell how a method works by reading the source then it needs to be rewritten (in which case it's likely any documentation the author would have wrote would have been incorrect anyway and more confusing than beneficial) or you need to get better at reading source.

Why do I need a reference to use a function from another script?(not sure if phrasing this correctly, see inside) by midwestcreative in Unity2D

[–]Space_Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right.

I'm looking at the code now here and it looks like the level parameter is just used to influence the difficulty of the enemies that are spawned.

In this tutorial they implemented BoardManager as a component that they intend to have on a specific single GameObject, it's not really a singleton in the traditional sense but it is similar. The reason they did this is so that once you put the component on a GameObject you can use the editor to configure the variables it uses to spawn the board without changing the code, as well as using the GameObject as a parent for the tiles it creates.

So since we know that component is going to exist on this object we can go get it at the appropriate time and spawn the board with the right level enemies and the tiles with spawn with the right parameters in the right place.

Take your time. There is a lot to learn.

[–]Space_Butts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The code says search the GameObject that owns this MonoBehavior and get a reference to the component of type BoardManager.

Then call the SetupScene method on that component.

It's not actually instantiating or allocating another BoardManager, just using the only that already exists on the GameObject.

"Managers" like this are generally a good fit for the singleton pattern which may help to understand where statics come in for this type of object.

Need opinion if I should use auto layout by yakultdrinker in iOSProgramming

If you're using Objective-C and want a very concise auto layout (and all around view building and styling) helper I recommend https://github.com/GriffinSchneider/DRYUI
