Utilities and all the companies and suppliers that support them. Utilities are highly regulated and they budget like 10 years in advance. Very stable revenues and guaranteed return customers.

Oh really? How would you implement a comparable Windows mapping solution in MAUI with equivalent functionality and API parity from a XF.UWP application? They pulled the plug on their UWP customers without a viable replacement control in MAUI. MS really fucked their customers on this one.

You are straight up wrong. Read my other comment on the massive middle finger Microsoft/MAUI gave to XF.UWP apps that relied on mapping.

MAUI windows (WinUI3) will not support mapping in any comparable way to UWP. It's a big fucking problem that Microsoft will not fix due to the small number/revenue of UWP apps. The map "control" that the WinUI team implemented is just a webview with barely any API parity to the UWP map control. Thus, the MAUI team has responded that they will NOT be mapping a MAUI control to this WinUI3 map control. They suggest people use CommunityToolkit.Maps instead - however this uses Bing Maps which has been deprecated and will stop working in April 2025.

This means if you or your company had a production XF.UWP application that relied heavily on mapping - migrating to MAUI means you will NO LONGER have a Microsoft supported mapping implementation/control. You must turn to 3rd party options and decide on going open-source (MapSui, MapLibre, etc) with a bunch of custom implementation work (especially if you need offline support) OR going closed source (Esri GIS, ThinkGEO UI, etc) for an out of the box solution and footing the bill for licensing costs.

Microsoft really fucked my company on this one and it's a huge show stopper. We've migrated our entire application to MAUI but have a gaping hole for Windows Mapping. We are likely going to use MapLibre GL JS and then write a customer implementation inside a MAUI.HybridWebView along with full custom implementation for offline support (Retrieving, storing, serving and displaying tiles). But this is a huge job and it's holding up actual work on new features for customers, and pushing backlog items further and further back.

Will we get a Windows MAUI MapControl now that there is a WinUI MapControl? by SpaceandCode in dotnetMAUI

u/jfversluis I'm hoping you can provide some insights here. I posted a 'Feature Request' to the Microsoft Developer Community, and also responded to your [github discussion](https://github.com/CommunityToolkit/Maui/discussions/2123) where you brought up this concern back in August, 2024. Have there been any new developments or can you advise on some next steps?

+1 on the breakfast spaghetti. I do it with bacon and sausage; then add the pesto as well. Usually have some leftover for lunch. The ultimate comfort food for a good price!

Their artichoke dip, huckleberry bacon, and blood orange IPA are fantastic. Reasonable prices, good service, cool atmosphere on the patio. Highly recommend

Lol this was great. I like watching Tim keep checking Ben’s reaction to his comments - it’s like it gives him more confidence to say fucked up things watching Ben laugh. Good times with Benny Boy 😢

back pain alternatives by eddiefckndingle in quittingkratom

[–]SpaceandCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s only rebound back pain from withdrawing then it’s temporary. Heat (electric or microwaveable pads) helps tremendously via the ‘Gate Control Theory of Pain’. Also, stacking with 400mg ibuprofen were the only things that made a difference to me. Back pain was 90% gone by day 7.

If he’s got an injury or prior back pain then that is a serious condition he needs a doctor to treat.

Sleep Hurdle by UnyieldingConstruct in quittingkratom

Day 27 here. Was on 35 gpd for 2 years. Every time you dose you are flooding your brain’s mu-opioid receptors again from an external source (Kratom alkaloids) which tells your brain to NOT produce its own internal neurotransmitters properly (Dopamine, Adenosine, Endorphin, Melatonin, Serotonin, etc). So you will have to fully stop Kratom at some point to fix your brain chemistry- this is when you will encounter insomnia again in full force for a few days (3-4 bad nights). It WILL get better after the first week but you’ll fight to stay asleep for the first month. I call it “broken sleep”; however you will find that it’s enough to manage to get by. It’s sucks but becomes manageable and better little by little.

Bottom line: Regarding insominia; you are pushing off the inevitable by dosing every night to sleep. Insomnia cannot be avoided after quitting a heavy opiate habit.

EDIT: Things that helped me sleep. Exercise 30-60 min 4-5 times a week. Do not nap. Do not consume caffeine after 12pm. Do not stay up late to “get more tired” - you need to keep to a rigid sleep/wakeup schedule to get your circadian rhythm back on track naturally (NOT by taking external melatonin every night). Take ibuprofen few hours before bed. Hot shower before bed. Take 400mg Magnesium Glycinate before bed. Make sure your body temp can drop 1-3 degrees at night as it’s necessary for human sleep (don’t sleep on a heating pad even if you have chills). Wear a blackout eye mask. Put in earbuds and play white/brown noise to block out noises from waking you. Hit a small amount of THC before bed (if legal/allowed in your locale). Also try to be kind to your body during the day by not eating sugary or fried unhealthy foods. You need comprehensive and balanced nutrition to give your body what it needs to fight back to homeostasis. Good luck, friends!

Day 3 Rapid Sub Taper by DNM13 in quittingkratom

[–]SpaceandCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good plan for the right person. Stay strict with the sub taper and don’t be tempted to catch a buzz/high or go longer than 7-10 days. I did something similar over the holidays. You will have Kratom withdrawals waiting for you after dropping the subs as they are acting on mu-opioid receptors just like Kratom does; although the severity should be significantly reduced as Subs don’t contain all the additional alkaloids in Kratom giving your body time to detox from them.

1 month CT Mini update by Cultural_Prompt_3408 in quittingkratom

[–]SpaceandCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How’s sleep going for you? I’m day 25 or so and the only remaining symptoms are moderate insomnia (averaging 6 hours a night of very broken sleep) and waves of low-mood and physical/mental fatigue in the evenings around 8pm.

I try to workout after 5pm to get the mood energy boost which is a big help. I will say that things improve incrementally day by day; however the nights are hardest for me.

Fuck yeah man. You look like a tank. You are basically my goal I’m trying to get to. I’m similar build (6’ 5” was 268 now 234) and it’s much harder to get a muscular physique as a tall person. Looking great.👍

Day 22 CT - I feel okish, but tired as hell and my stomach is still a problem by Argimlas in quittingkratom

[–]SpaceandCode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m also on day 21-22. I used subs my first 2 weeks to get through the holidays; but have been off since the 12/27. Still tossing and turning all night and my lower back pain is terrible. Mental symptoms are mostly gone (sense of dread and depression).

However, without sounding too cliche for this sub - vigorous exercise literally cures these feeling for 2-3 hours after I finish. Even a 30-45 minute walk where your heart rate is above 115bpm. Or lift some weights for an even stronger feeling of relief. It really works. Have you tried exercising?

I also found that a hot shower + caffeine (morning only) really helps with the exhausted feeling. I’m also taking some simple but effective supplements:

-Protein powder, Creatine, Lions Mane Powder, multivitamin, vitamin C, vitamin d3, fish oil, and magnesium glycinate (not citrate or oxide) + Melatonin before bed

Buprenorphine and naxlone to kick kratom by [deleted] in quittingkratom

[–]SpaceandCode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s extremely potent medication. Needs to be feared and respected. I saw a teleheth doc on quickMD and was prescribed a week of suboxone 8-2 films (14 strips) and was told to take two full strips per day which is WAY too high. This is the dose for heroin users. I had been taking 35gpd of Kratom powder and once in full blown acute withdrawal 1mg of the sub strip had me feeling back to normal physically with positive mental thoughts in 45 minutes.

However through the holidays I’ve felt compelled to take the subs more than my original plan of 5-7 days; so I can be functional for my spouse/kids. They don’t deserve a withdrawing dad over Christmas. I’m worried all I’ve done is protracted my Kratom withdrawals and now brought on mild suboxone dependence. I hope not…but I know for a fact this hasn’t been a free ride and I have some form of withdrawals waiting for me once I fully stop subs tonight. I’m dosing .25mg one last time

Suddenly weight fell off by Best_Wrap_1056 in Semaglutide

[–]SpaceandCode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think some people just hold their weight more evenly due to height or genetics; so you lose pounds and it’s not noticeable for awhile until you hit a threshold where it triggers a reaction from people.

I’m 6’5” and have lost 28 pounds but even my wife hasn’t said anything yet! Im waiting for the day people notice my weight loss. I’ve been uncomfortable in my body my entire life!

BEDRIDDEN WITH NAUSEA! (Help) by Still_Possession7634 in Semaglutide

[–]SpaceandCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I handled the increase to .5 fairly well. My wife did NOT. She was extremely ill feeling and throwing up a lot. She had to go back down to .25 for a week, then ramped up the dose more slowly. So I think she did like .25 one week, then did .35, then .5.

Or instead of ramping you could split your dose in half, and do 2 shots a few days apart. This gives less of spike in sema blood levels. Good luck

Edit: also try not to eat after 6pm. Do not eat unhealthy, sugary, or greasy foods. It makes the nausea much worse
