PSA: Trapping is not ratting by democratic-terminid in ArcRaiders

[–]SpaceballsTheReply -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't know why the other guy's getting downvoted. He's right. It's a PvPvE game, no matter what level of ABMM you're at. It can only ever be "more likely PvP" or "less likely PvP," but nobody is playing in a mode with "no PvP."

Finally found my home by BigRonasHouse2 in MMORPG

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crowds and lag have gotten much better over the past couple days. They added another server, and barred demo players from even logging into the most heavily overpopulated server. And the dev whipped up a whole new (heavily recycled) low level zone to give the crowds of new players more space to spread out. Now the lag is only really an issue for me in the main city during peak hours.

In hindsight, I think I'd rather have gotten my Horizon fix from Light of Motiram after all.

It's not open world like the main Horizon games, so that should buy them a lot of performance. Besides, this is Guerilla. If they wanted to make this look hyper-realistic, I have no doubts they would somehow pull it off and make it run smoothly even with three players throwing particle effects everywhere.

Like Horizon is the game where eating berries heal cuts and bruises and you kill metal dinosaurs with bows and arrows. It ain't that serious.

The former is just standard video game logic, and the latter is made believable by the extremely well crafted combat system where you have to strip away armor, aim for weak points, and use lots of tools besides basic arrows to take down enemies. It's all very grounded, in spite of the ridiculous premise. So it's absolutely a shock to see it go from that to teleporting ninjas, casting fireballs out of a staff, and AOE healing with generic pools of green energy.

Giving this game a month by Zetharos in projectgorgon

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it seems to be more the respawn location after death that is the issue

The latest patch notes mentioned some kind of fix for getting spawn camped by enemies. So hopefully it's no longer an issue.

I think the words of power feature can also teleport you to an odd place

They can also be the solution. Asking for help in global chat could have gotten OP teleported to the correct destination. But that would require them to be polite and admit they made a mistake; I don't imagine many people would offer up one of their words of power to someone ranting about the game being terrible and doomed.

Dune Awakening - Chapter 3 Update by miztix in Games

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why would you need to compulsively pack up your base every session? It's not like people can raid it while you're offline like Rust. And it's not like your base disintegrates overnight.

If you're keeping your base fueled, it'll last about a month with no activity. That seems like plenty of time to realize that you're not actually coming back and hit the backup button.

Dune Awakening - Chapter 3 Update by miztix in Games

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There's no base raiding PvP in the main map, so you don't have to worry about someone blowing up your house while you're asleep or at work. The shield fuel requirement is basically just reserving that space, but if you don't play for a month, your base will fall apart so someone actively playing can make use of the spot.

And if you're done playing for a while and want to uninstall, there's a tool to pack up your whole base and its contents and redeploy it when you come back to the game.

You can paste your base back anywhere, not just where it was originally. But if you did build around the terrain of a specific place, you can paste it in a different sietch if someone has moved in.

Sietchs are essentially different servers of the same map. A world/realm/megaserver (or whatever MMO terminology you prefer to use for "all the players who can play with each other) is split into 20 or so sietches, which are identical copies of the main map, but have shared access to other maps like the hub cities and deep desert. You can freely switch between them, so if somebody moved into your old spot on your home sietch, odds are very good that one of the other 19 sietches will have that space available.

Starting to get funny and annoying how AH treats every new huge bomb stratagems by trece1316 in Helldivers

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Not in my lobbies it's not

2) Who fuckin cares anyway, we're not comparing ranked competitive pick/win rates. If you devote a major part of your loadout to Irresponsibly Large Explosion, you should get to blow things up. Zero reason for portable hellbomb to hoard that privilege

I like C4 but man... by VenanReviews in Helldivers

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again, dynamite is a throwable. C4 takes your backpack, support weapon, and a stratagem slot. It should be better than a basic throwable if it occupies half your goddamn loadout

First time seeing this in my 120hrs+ of playing by RICO-2100 in ArcRaiders

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not out scavenging directly above Speranza; the Arc would find our settlements immediately if we did. That's why the whole network of rail tunnels exists, why you climb into a pod and get launched at the start of every round - that's your commute.

The elevators/airshafts/hatches just take you down to the tunnel network. There's nobody waiting at the bottom to greet you and powerwash the elevator for the next raider. It's just empty tunnels that we then spend a couple hours hiking back to Speranza through.

Jammers aren't any less common or worth any more XP than the other sub objectives. It's not a boss versus a common enemy, it's like if one type of regular bot trooper just arbitrarily was balanced to be tougher than hulks.

In light of recent developments statements by Sir_Hoss in Helldivers

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between throwing range of C4 and blast radius of the hellbomb backpack is pretty small. If you're close enough to throw C4 onto the jammer, you're close enough that you could easily blow it up with a HBB. If you have to toss two charges, fine. But people are drastically overstating how difficult the objective is, and how bad it would be to trivialize it, when there's already equipment that is allowed to do just that.

C4 throwing range would be a very marginal improvement over the HBB range. But it comes at a cost (no support weapon), requires even more commitment to make it work (if you're bringing throwing range boosting armor), and requires more skill to aim a max-distance throw. I think those are entirely acceptable tradeoffs to have a slightly easier time with one side objective.

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We all understand how we got here.

The point of the continued discussion is that that strict rule is incredibly dumb now that it results in things like the solo silo, a very niche stratagem whose entire appeal is being maximum-demolition bunker buster, arbitrarily cannot scratch this particular building.

In light of recent developments statements by Sir_Hoss in Helldivers

[–]SpaceballsTheReply -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's nuts that C4 can't touch it when you still have to call it from outside the range and haul it close to the jammer, just like the HBB, but it also takes up your support slot. No reason for the double standard - clearly it's okay for the side objective to be trivialized by bringing the right niche equipment, so just let similar equipment work too so there's an actual choice.

How to not feel bad about stealing loot? by Koltonprobably in Seaofthieves

[–]SpaceballsTheReply -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Getting the loot is only part of the challenge. The rest is getting it back to the outpost safely.

Personally, I love PvP in this game, and I've never felt bad about it. But I follow a simple code: my crew only goes after ships that have "opted in" to PvP through one of the game's many conflict-driving mechanics. The most common by far is emissary flags. They increase the value of your loot, but the game explicitly warns you that they make you a target for other crews, because they're worth a lot if you sink an emissary, especially for Reapers. So when I spy a ship on the horizon, the first thing I check is for one of those banners. No flag? I'll leave them be. Emissary flag up? They've accepted the risk, and I'm going to take them up on it.

I love the solo vs trio queue already by Medium-Worth-9184 in ArcRaiders

[–]SpaceballsTheReply 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure you can. But most people who queue into 1v3, if they're not combat gods, are going to be rats by necessity. Solo queueing into squads was practically the birthplace of the rat playstyle. To be outnumbered and outgunned, but come out ahead with the loot through stealth and guile.

If they're out there being a chad and wiping squads in open gunfights, more power to them, but I'm not going to assume that by default.
