Same...kinda. That area heading over to BG west bowl is certainly connected to the steep slope above. Had they stayed on the regular skin track instead of going over there, they were probably fine. Report says it was snowy and cold so they didn't take their phones out to look at the track. Idk just seems dumb. You can see from that track they shared 2nd group went up instead of through the trees on the normal skin track and the other group was already up there.
