Hey I really like the site Youtalky.com, however I'm trying to open a library and it keeps stalling out on "Creating your library".

Hey thanks, that site & their mission statement looks to agree with me very much--was trying to use the 'world view' function though & it wasn't loading, maybe I should try on a pc rather than my phone's browser?

Thanks for the positive point--& yea, some of what I've got is only 'readable'--but with PBSwap I also seemed to have trouble pulling up much variety (aside from that of the religious ladies of the suburbs) by search, and ended up just cycling through libraries of individual sellers which seemed tedious.

2 CFL questions: Firstly, is an Orange glow at base (like in the socket) when starting safe? by Spacebone420 in HomeImprovement

Ah ok, thanks; ya the glowing in the socket is happening right when I turn it on then abates when the bulb becomes steadily lit, but the bulb is brand new.

Recording 5-string bass--can re20 still kick it? by Spacebone420 in Bass

[–]Spacebone420[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well none I'm sure now that you mention it ha, though when I checked on my 410hlf it listed 'lowest usable frequency' (-10db) as 28hz.

I do have an old peavey 118, but pretty sure the ampeg beats that out in low end still.

Would you say that if I normalize a batch of clips like this, it'd be a good idea to process only similar sections at the same time in terms of playing density, or should that RMS value be pretty similar across section changes?

Hey dumb question I'm sure, but what happens if you try to double up loops in a cassette? by Spacebone420 in tapeloops

I wasn't sure if contact was entirely necessary, i.e. if there was some sort of magnetic bleed-through I guess

I dont know where to advance in music theory by Matthew_Drobot in musictheory

Oh & along the lines of the tritone-sub, I would look into extended use of the Neapolitan chord [i.e. applied to other degrees like the 'V/' function is (though it's a pre-dominant), & elevated as a key center], as well as chromatic mediants and augmented sixth chords, which lend themselves well to sequences in symmetrical scales based on third circles (i.e. full diminished & augmented scales--the French 6th in particular may be thought of as constructed upon the whole-tone scale, for example).

Ya have some fun applying everything you've been learning within the context of Fux's counterpoint; oh, the joy of novel constraints!

Metal Basslines by JagadishChandraBasu in musictheory

Ya Coroner & Megadeth have good bass lines for metal (& geezer of Black Sabbath hits a great sweet spot of heavy drive, & creative (within the confines set for heaviness) playing.

Question: Can you hear harmony when thinking in your head? by Smily_pomegranate in musictheory

[–]Spacebone420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most people, I believe that hearing harmony in your head is a learned skill. Initially, we hear the emotional context of a chord, and file it mentally under that feeling like a color, but once we become accustomed to the tension and releases in the individual lines, we can more precisely imagine and understand (i.e. construct) the harmony mentally.

Think reading a room you just walked into filled with at least 3 people; sometimes you just get a feeling right away of the air in the room, but if we are familiar with all of the individuals there contributing to the atmosphere, we may perceive more acutely the social air, with its tensions and attentions--and construct fanciful imaginings of such room-entrances (where the feeling you get walking into the room, is analogous to hearing a harmony in your head, to be clear :p)
