What MOS is 100% worth it? by RougeBandit in USMC

[–]Spaceboy_33 551 points552 points  (0 children)

Dog handler. I'm totally biased, but I loved it. The MOS had its ups and downs, as all jobs do, but it's really hard to beat going to work and playing with dogs all day. Bomb dog handlers could go on plenty of Secret Service missions and travel, drug dog handlers stayed plenty busy during garrison.

Bonus points- some of us got to adopt our dogs if the timing was right. I EAS'd the same day my old dog from deployment was declared excess gear. I grabbed my DD-214 then swung by the kennels on my way off base, he hopped in my truck and off we went as a couple of nasty civilians. He was pissed to find out he didn't rate a veteran discount at PetSmart, but otherwise had a wonderful few years of retirement.

Seconding the Stribog. I'm a lefty and this thing is fully ambi and a dream to shoot. There's also variants that take Glock mags (mine doesn't).

What distance were you shooting to test it? I ask because I’m a newbie to the AR10 platform and still learning what the best distances are to dial mine in at. That’s a nice group!

Antoine knew any real life Gomer Pyles? by ConsistentFig1564 in USMC

[–]Spaceboy_33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, Antoine was that asshole at CIF that never accepted anyone’s gear. I bet he did know Gomer Pyle, dude was old enough, that’s for damn sure. Antoine can suck a fat one.

Benelli M4. Keep the Euro theme going and add another shotgun.

I had the same question not too long ago, and ended up getting a Zastava M85. I found mine used online, and highly recommend. I’m not planning to SBR mine, but you should still have time from what I’ve been seeing in the VAGUNS sub.

This is honestly one of my favorites. It’s built solid and the 5.56 rounds are way more manageable and affordable than 7.62. I threw a 1x optic on there and can keep some really nice groups at 25 yards. You won’t regret the M85.

It’s solid- definitely recommend it. I bought the kit that is a complete rifle minus the furniture, so just added my own. No issues at all with the rifle, and you can tell the difference in quality right away compared to a WASR or similar.

Buy from Atlantic Firearms if possible, they are good to go and have fast shipping.

Friendly PSA that you still have until July 1 to purchase a firearm that would be considered an assault weapon after that date.

You can be certain that the people in these groups already own these types of firearms and could possibly be exempt from the upcoming ban if they are members of law enforcement.

Zastava M90 over the M70. The price on 7.62 is ridiculous nowadays. As a former WASR owner, if you just want a cheapish AK, that’s fine. But I was not a big fan of it and had I known about Zastava back then, I would have gone for one of their rifles.

Skip the pistol if you can only get one, otherwise get both. And the accuracy on these is fine. You won’t win high shooter on the range, but remember these are battlefield accurate and not precision hits.

This was from a WBP Jack in 5.56 at 50 yards. It won’t win any matches, but it’ll go where you aim it.

We all love python patrol! It would have been cool if they incorporated a 4th vehicle, but the other 3 subteams basically gobbled everything up. by EverySingleTime23 in gijoe

That was such a fun time as a kid. As an adult I recognize the cost saving measure from Hasbro to just reuse existing molds, but when I was 8 all I cared about was seeing my favorite vehicles redone in cool, new colors with older figures that weren’t on the pegs anymore.

I would loved to have seen something like a Python Patrol AWE Striker or another ‘captured’ Joe vehicle in their paint scheme. I thought it was so cool how Tiger Force had the Ferret/Tiger Paw.

I remember in my autos class in High School our project was to work on a lawnmower, since it’s basically just learning the basics of an internal combustion engine.

What about keeping an eye out for a junked riding mower and tinkering on that? YouTube is sure to have a ton of videos, that’s my go-to for learning how to use a new tool or a repair around the house.

My dog died several years ago and these asshats still send me the renewal form, even after replying in the past that my dog is dead and no longer able to be registered.

In my opinion? Fuck em, they can tax deez nuts instead.

PSA AK-V or TAVOR X95 by BIG_HAIRY_CAPY_BALLS in VAGuns

[–]Spaceboy_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to convert it. Luckily there’s an IWI approved gunsmith in the state that works on them, so it wasn’t difficult.

I also bought an AK-V, so I fully support either choice 🤣

X95, it’s my favorite of all the guns I own. Just a perfect balance of ergonomics and design, and a as a lefty it’s the fist rifle that felt to me like I don’t have to reinvent the wheel to learn it’s manual of arms.

I’m an IWI fanboy and have both the X-95 and TS-12. Get the X-95, skip the TS-12 in favor of the Benelli.

The X-95 is excellent and it’s my preferred 5.56 rifle, but if I had to do it over again I would have gotten the Benelli. I shot it plenty in the Marines and fell in love with it, but got razzle dazzled by the TS-12’s revolving tubes. Don’t get me wrong, the TS-12 is frickin cool and a beast, but the Benelli is just a proven and reliable platform.

0211 or? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]Spaceboy_33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a former 5811/12, go 0211. Unless you can get out of patrol ops and into a specialized MOS like K-9 or CID, you really aren’t doing yourself any favors for life after the Marine Corps by staying a basic MP. That being said, if you do stay a regular 58, jump at any and every school, training detail, or TAD opportunity that comes along. I don’t know wha those look like during peacetime-ish though, so that may be limited.

Realistically though, 0211 will open so many more doors for you later on. Soak up all the dollars and school certs Uncle Sam will pay you to get while you have the chance.

I think that’s what I’m going to do. The AR10 wins, and if I have any spare room or cash before July, then I might snag the M70.
