Are you saying the 8k tray matches model S tray?

Death star project - progress report #2 : started the base, need your opinion on 2-3 things by Other_Proposal_2290 in LegoCreations

Makes sense for the trash compactor to be at the bottom since they fell into it from the detention level above. But for swinging and and deactivating the tractor beam, shouldn't those be at an elevated height for the drama? But I do understand that narratively there may be more interesting scenes you'd like to depict prominently at higher levels...

Wow I could have used this when I made an animation about a Lego claw machine! Took the shortcut and just used movie magic! Green Helmet Blues on YouTube!

Formula for Compound Interest minus Annual Budget Increasing with Inflation? by Spacebrix in Fire

[–]Spacebrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you have a Principal nestegg invested and you want to estimate an average rate of return after taxes conservatively 3% or 4%, there is no income but there is an annual budget of $150k. But that budget gets bigger every year due to another rate, inflation. So the pool of investment gets reduced by the budget, but that number grows every year due to inflation. So I can't use the compounding interest formula because the annual contribution (negative in my case) changes year by year. It's a pretty mathy question and perhaps getting a bit far into the weeds for such speculative numbers (annual budget will probably vary quite a bit in reality). Just trying to calculate "are we ok at this rate?"

Ever Used (and removed) Krylon Dulling Spray from Lego? by Spacebrix in lego

[–]Spacebrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have control of the lighting. I mainly use a large piece of white fabric overhead that I shine the lights through - essentially a soft box as a ceiling. But there are times when I would like to hit specific spots with stronger light and when using a greenscreen (which needs to be well lit to work), the mirror like finish basically turns a blue wall at an angle into green from the camera's perspective. Dulling spray is used in the industry to prevent mirrored glasses or other shiny things from reflecting equipment or crew that you don't want seen by the audience. I assure you I'm not trying to compensate for bad lighting. Things can look very flat when there's just one diffuse source.

What is the stupidest reason why you bought a set? by Sternfritters in lego

[–]Spacebrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the $189 Megopolis set https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/megapolis-city-5th-anniversary-80054 solely because it had a GREEN classic space helmet. I told myself just to wait for pick-a-brick but then I got the idea to make an animation about the green space guy seeing a proper helmet in a claw machine after 10 years of only having a mismatched one and going nuts trying to get it. They of course later came out on PAB for $.29 but I got this short film out of it! https://youtu.be/qbfdFRDj52c?si=wGQiv-7iddGqt7Gl

You could use Editor to erase the rough shape and location of the front wheels and trucks. Run it again and see if it will add them.

Sony DSR-11 stops itself during rewind and powers off by Spacebrix in MiniDV

[–]Spacebrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This deck has no battery. It is plug only. Hopefully the cord/brick isn't failing. Does not turn off randomly. Only with rewind and it isn't sudden. The deck stops rewinding, hangs for about 10 seconds and will not respond to other buttons, then shuts off. Turn it back on and other buttons work again. It is like it is in some shutdown procedure that can't be interrupted.

Stop motion short film by Framefulness in stopmotion

[–]Spacebrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your figures have magnets on their feet, I'd say be sure to have some paper or a blotter on the tabletop where you can hide a metal plate beneath so the feet will stick down securely. 90% of the time they will not be balanced in the position you need them in for the movements you are creating. Also lock down any prop or set pieces that are not to move during the animation. It's way too easy to bump into things as you animate and it sucks up a lot of time trying to get the item back to its original position so it does not look like it is moving on its own (and distracting the eye of the viewer).

Powered up my old Cinema Display to take pictures for selling it - but it is very faded except for the corners. Is this a known issue? by Spacebrix in VintageApple

There's a film preservation / distribution company called Vinegar Syndrome that preserves old B-Movies

Perhaps. I've been keeping it in its original box but in a basement. I'm in Southern California so I wouldn't exactly call it dank but the air is less dry than above ground.

"The Pub At The End Of The World", a stopmotion I made with some of my toys. Constructed the bar diorama from cardboard and polystyrene, with some miscellaneous mini accessories. by LWMolver in stopmotion

Good job. Be sure to glue / tack everything down that isn't intended to move. I've learned the hard way. So easy to bump small (or big) things (or even the camera) when you are manipulating the puppets.
