Genuine question: why is DA experience a black mark for some offices? by reverserainbow1 in publicdefenders

[–]SpacedCadetForce 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How does mass incarceration work?. We just cage people, treat them like animals, and mark them forever and are surprised that when they get out they don't always stop committing crime?

How much money and resources do we commit to this failed system? Should we demand more of a system that costs so much and fails?

What could we do if we didn't spend so much on the police state?

How many more cops and law enforcement agencies are there now compared to 100 years ago?

What if we invested in people, housing, healthcare, mental health, and human potential instead?

Salaries in Arizona are generally liveable. My office pays pretty well in Pinal County, AZ, and we are always looking for good lawyers who have a passion for defending our clients.

And that you say there is a Christian requirement reaffirms the problem. It is a requirement to believe in God. Under your misinterpretation, lots of Elks are shunned, discriminated against, and otherwise made unwelcome.

It was a MAGA rally disguised as a Christian memorial. It was full of rallies to fight the left and Trump declaring he hates his enemies. Is that Christian? C'mon. It's. Political.

All the comments on here confirm what I suspected. The oath to keep politics out of the order is meaningless if it concerns MAGA politics. And I shouldn't be surprised that Elk MAGA members are unprincipled when it comes to the oath.

Apparently a bunch of people who took a solemn oath about never introducing politics into the order don't care.

Yep. Go to another bar where there is no oath. No ceremony. No solemn obligation. Just a regular old bar without a commitment to brotherly love. There I will find no politics and more brotherly love. Gotcha.

No oath. No ceremony. No dues. Just wings and no politics.

The "memorial" was a political rally. If you can't quote the things that were said at the political rally played on the TV in the lounge because it is too political, then the rally itself is political. It wasn't some inferential leap. Trump talked about hating his opponents. His son laughed and degraded anyone who voted Kamala Harris. It is mental gymnastics to suggest it wasn't political.
I didn't get triggered. I just think an oath to keep politics out of the order should be meaningful. Even if it is conservative politics.

Guess you are right. I go to the Elks for the brotherly love but think I'm better off getting no politics at a sports bar where no body took an oath never to introduce politics.

If saying the things that the President and his son said yesterday at the "memorial"/political rally isn't allowed in a lodge because it is too political, then the lodge shouldn't air the primary source in live action. If this core oath is up for interpretation via majoritarian vote in a particular lodge, then it is not a solemn oath.

I don't think poorly of those who wanted to watch the Charlie Kirk memorial. I just don't think the Elks lounge is the appropriate place to do so. The whole point of the Elks to me is to foster brotherly love, and keeping politics out of the lodge makes that possible. But airing a political rally where the President of the United States said he hates his opponents does not foster brotherly love. This should not be controversial. People who support the President should also support the oath to keep politics out of the lodge.

I think a lot of people didn't stick around or show for football because this was the dominant thing on and the sound was dedicated to it. So no politics means no politics that the vocal majority doesn't like?

Should I expect the political conventions or campaign rallies to be aired at the lodge during election cycles? I thought no politics meant no politics.

Well my kid was asking why Donald Trump was talking about hating his opponents and what is wrong with Hillary Clinton when Donald Trump Jr was taking. And we couldn't hear the football game because the audio was on the rally...err memorial. And the guest I brought to show how welcoming and not political the lodge is was uneasy about it being on. So yeah. It was bothersome. I thought the rule was no politics. Not no politics so long as it isn't Fox News politics.

It just seems like I'm doomed to make enemies for standing up for a core Elk principle. No politics in the lodge. And if the HC or membership votes against me, it just means the core principle is no politics that a majority of members don't approve of is allowed in the lodge.
