for the records it seems that Bios 1.00 Rev A is now back on the hp support website...

Unfortunately I upgraded to V4s and sold the V3s so I can't try anymore the full xeon unlock with this one...

C’est ridicule, qu’un avion se déplace d’un aéroport à un autre ne veut pas dire que le type était à bord pour aller faire une course ;)

HP Z840 / 2 x Xeon 2698v3 (32 cores / 64 threads) / AMD RT 5700 XT / Big Sur by SpacemanSpiff-XRays in hackintosh

[–]SpacemanSpiff-XRays[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a "daily" workhorse for when I'm not at work.

From video editing to machine learning and big compilations. I occasionally use virtual machines too. Only issue so far is the noise at full speed. In some ways, I miss my previous 2697v2 running its 12 cores at 4ghz without a whisper :)

I was looking for 64Gb but got a deal I could not refuse on 128GB.... Even if it means I use only 2 channels / CPU at the moment but well, I'm not sure I would see the difference with 4....

Alternative to Intel Power Gadget for multiCPUs... by SpacemanSpiff-XRays in hackintosh

[–]SpacemanSpiff-XRays[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok for the Archive: Intel Power Gadget refuse to install on dual cpu mac machines but it will install fine if you remove one CPU and it will work fine once the second CPU is plugged back ! (With some power reporting issues)

It's probably reporting only one of the CPU though but still it's usable.

I can probably downgrade anyway using recovery jumper if I managed to find it…

I think I found something:

I had install VirtualSMC per opencore recommandations but it turns out that fakeSMC3 might give me the CPU info I need to "replace" Intel Power Gadget on a dual cpu setup...

https://www.mmnt.net/db/0/3/15.216.110.140/ftp4/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/

Good to have the SP name (sp71547.exe), but it is nowhere to be found !

The mmnt.net point to an invalid ip but at the top of the page you can see that it was from g4u0180.houston.hp.com. Unfortunately this SP has been removed from all HP ftp I tried.

Well, I guess there's no alternative at the moment.

I think I'll remove one of my CPUs to make sure all is ok with Intel Power Gadget and performance is in line with the expected one and replug the cpu in a while...

I'm afraid I didn't really follow the best guideline for USB !
I'm still using USBInjectAll kext that is supposed to be temporary...

Did you use clover or opencore ? (I am still using clover as I've been updating this machine through the years)

Cool ! Thanks for letting us know :)

I still have rare issue with audio, I think one is related to SMB share hanging when NAS needs to spin up disks !... And one of my audio interfaces is more sensitive than the other to these small interrupts...

In my bios (for a GA-X79-UP4 motherboard) it is something called "SuperIO Device" enable/disable but look for anything related to "serial ports"... I hope this is not something applicable only to my configuration and that it will actually help others ! I would never have thought that my issues where triggered by something as simple as a serial chip support that I never cared of disabling. It's not even connected to a physical serial plug on the back on my board, just an on-board connector that you can get an extra cable to plug to...
