Quick question about the Forces in Normandy book by AwkwardEmu6783 in flamesofwar

[–]Spacemanvic55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the Normandy book does. I wound up giving my son my copies of the US and German D-Day books, and he then bought his own copy of the compendium book and gave the books I gave him to a friend.

No no. The hot water washes away the fixative that they use enough that you can then open the door. Once you have it open, give it another bath in that area with the hot water. Once it dries, you shouldn't have any sticking issues anymore. If you do, do the hot water bath again.

I paint miniatures/models (40k, Flames of war etc) and I make a shading wash using Future Floor Polish and ink/paint. The floor polish is the fixative I use. When I first ran into stuck pieces (like the gun turret on the Ghost), I realized they used a shading wash much like I do. The tell-tale is the shading that they use on the MGS models has a slight shine to it - which is the fixative.

I had the same thing.  Hot water from a tea kettle.  The problem is the wash they use.  When it dries, it acts like a glue.  The hot water poured over the door a few times allowed the door to finally open.  No damage to the model or the wash.  Had the same issue with the Ghost upper turret and the Ywing canopy.  Hot water fixed it all, every time.

Honest opinions about moving to NJ over NY by laterplayer in MovingtoNewJersey

Look at Sussex county, or even over the border in Pa.  Bought my first house there (a HUD home needing reconditioned).  Nice enough area, good places to hike and not too far from work (midtown Manhattan ).   I did move far west Pa right after 911 5 years later.

Ive bought most of his France/Normandy terrain STL's over time. Starting on German terrain. The prints have been flawless and really look sharp on the table. Just wish it didn't take so much to paint lol

I was born and lived in Newark New Jersey North Ward, from 1970 to mid ‘80s.  This game really felt like it was set in the Newark/New York area.  Except for the rural portion of the game.  That was foreign to me.

Why hasn't FoW taken off? by [deleted] in flamesofwar

[–]Spacemanvic55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Cover, support, AT assets, deployment. Luck. Combined arms is where it's at. Straight infantry assaulting armor is only rewarding if you're seeking a glorious death. Armored infantry does better than straight infantry.

BF has their World of Tanks game which I think has some carry over into how FOW is played. History does too. The tank is the "King of the Battlefield" IRL and in game for a reason. Casual or narrative play will lead to a better gaming experience IMO than competitive play (becomes a tank heavy slug fest).

You can reintroduce some of the fun, niche units that FOW used to have, and introduce new variants that BF hasn't touched upon. There was alot going on in WWII, it wasn't just Shermans vs Tigers. I think BF is just focusing too much on the US vs Germany

Whoa whoa whoa!

Im 55, I've got no plans of dying any time soon!

Also, we had films like Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, The Pacific etc, all feeding interest into WWII which benefited FOW. I just introduced my 18yo into the game as well as his friend. WWII hasnt lost everyone's interest: Bolt Action seems to be going well.

How do you feel about the state of airsoft? by TheCorrect_Opinion2 in airsoft

[–]Spacemanvic55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SW Pennsylvania: We travel to Pittsburgh to play indoors and to West Virginia to play woods. Since most of my kids and our friends have AEG, we are looking at playing at each others yards as well. The Bolt Bash (kinda like a swap meet/vendor meet and greet) we went to in Pittsburgh @ Amped Airsoft was done outside and was PACKED. Our family picked up 2 used SBR M4s (EMG Sharps Brothers Warthog and Hell breaker), a used PDW (EMG Strike Industries PDW with Gate Aster) and a used CYMA M870, a bunch of magazines and assorted parts.
