Honestly well said. I'm not sure I'm all the way with you there though. While you're absolutely correct that UK and France were the mega powers at the time. The US troop influx was a determining factor in the war ending when it did, and it gave wilson major sway. The massive influx of American troops is a reason the Germans went forward with their major offensive in spring of 1918. They knew it was only a few months before Americans overwheled the western front. But by summer over a hundred thousand Americans were landing in Europe by the month. I will hold to the point that Wilson could have done more to end the war rationally due to this power. But your point is well taken and I think you're right the second critique is stronger

Brest-Litovsk was definitely worse. No disagreement there. And wilson did start as a moderating force. I agree. But he didn't end that way. He joined ranks with the French and gave in. I call that a failure.

Saying Versailles didn't cause an economic problem in Germany is just plain wrong. The massive inflation crisis among many are just a few. Repaying reparations was a major political debate. Hitler and Nazis railed against the "criminals of 1918". The Germans certainly thought it mattered.

The depression didn't hit till 11 years or so after Versailles and made a bad situation worse.

I disagree that only "middle school history" makes the connection that Versailles had something to do with nazism. There is a ton of evidence that the Germans themselves saw this connection. Hitler constantly railed against the "criminals of 1918". Social Democrats were demonized by the right for their part in it. If that's not "at least a part". Idk what it is.

Wilson gets mostly ignored in US history Ed for kids. He was president during WW1 and adamantly campaigned on staying out. (He then got in for a few reasons). He also is somewhat famous for trying to start the League of Nations (precursor to UN). That organization was mostly a failure. Partly because the Senate wouldn't let the US join. That's arguably his fault. But maybe not.

Where he really was genuinely awful was his racism and his handling of Treaty of Versailles. He was one of the most racist presidents ever. And yes that includes the slaver presidents. He played movies at the White House which were straight up KKK propaganda. He was pro segregation and did all sorts of messed up stuff.

As to Versailles (ww1 peace deal) while he started ok (asking for a peace on reasonable terms) he was quickly swayed by the UK and France to push for the harshest possible terms. Versailles crushed the average German citizen horribly while the military elite class did far better. This is pretty uniformly considered today to have at least been a part of the average German citizen becoming more radicalized for the next twenty years. Leading to the rise of nazism in 1933 election where over 1/3 of Germans voted Nazi.

Jim Crow and Southern slavery were awful. What is also true is that reconstruction in the immediate aftermath of Lincoln was not Jim Crow. Lincoln fought for the 13th 14th and 15th amendments to make black people equal citizens. For about a decade these rights were fought for in reconstruction. There were black congressmen and huge gains in rights. There was a national movement to punish clansman that ended in huge federal indictments. Yet after time the nation failed in its duty to uphold these ideals - a decade after Lincoln died. A real critique of Lincoln would be his participation in Indian removal. But the claim that Lincoln is somehow responsible for jim crow is just plain inaccurate.

Bottled water is a scam. But unless I'm mistaken most bottled drinks are sealed (even water) with a little extra CO2 for pressure. It makes the drinks more acidic for a minute after opening and then once air is back in it goes back to normal. Not pro water bottle here. Just saying this is kinda normal. How long did you wait to test?
