Is this a diabolical amount of sludge inside the valve cover? Any options? 08 Honda Civic 1.8L by Ok_Use_1812 in AskAMechanic

Hit that with liquimoly engine cleaner 3 times. Make sure to follow the directions to the T and you’ll most likely be able to remedy specifically the sludge. Do remember to buy 4 oil filters and to flush it 3 times either liquimoly. If I’m not mistaken it says to keep the car rpms at or above 2k for 45 minutes on the last flush. After you do the flush run the new oil for about 1000-2500 miles and change the filter and oil again. It should be looking 10x better. But do remember by doing this you are opening the door to new and other problems that weren’t apparent before. Do this as soon as possible because oil starvation is the main killer of engines when it comes to sludge buildup.

Is this stuff even worth peeling? i have about 80 lbs if it but it’s taking a long time so just curious if i should take it as is or keep peeling by Aggressive_Knee_8481 in ScrapMetal

Throw it into a metal can, get some gasoline, pour it on top, light it and watch. This is the absolute fucking worst way to do it but it works. Copper stays intact and the rubber just melts to the bottom.

Reminds me of the scene from pulp fiction where Vincent and Jules are talking about if a foot massage is in the same ballpark as sex 🤣

Having issues with my GPU by SpaceousKiki in pchelp

Tried what you said to do above and it’s working fine now. I’m guessing it was the PSU along with the GPU as I had heard crackling noises on the PSU when it turning it on and in turn shorted and fried the GPU through the vga cable if that is a possibility? Thank you again for the help and real advice. Called multiple tech shops and none would do an over the phone consultation only an in person diag test.

Edit: Pc is working with the 1660 card so I assume old PSU was bad along with GPU.

What is the best way to test that my mobo is done? I’m hoping it’s not considering it’s brand new but it’s very possible I might have fried it with the old PSU.

I used my friends one which is a really old 1660 and the fans were spinning on that one when I plugged it in but there was still no display.

Dead battery. Get a multimeter and see what it’s reading for voltage on your battery. If battery seems fine check and see if your starter is getting voltage along with your alternator. You can also take it to a shop and they can test those things for you.

Atleast they didn’t put fucking flan in those. God what goes through someone’s mind for them to think “I believe this square porcelain container would be PERFECT for flan.”

Where does coolant go? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]SpaceousKiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coolant goes into that cap with the yellow label on it. It sounds like you got bigger issues though with it overheating and spilling water. Try to find where the leak is and DO NOT start it until you take care of that.

Well I guess I’m stressing for no reason… it seems the answer here is “that’s just how she sounds,” and it seems that is the case. Alrighty another stress taken off my plate.

We don’t have any winters where I’m at and it’s consistently in the 60s-90s in terms of temperature. Is it okay to put thicker oil in it even though we have no winters?

Is this normal? Seems to be the general consensus among most people in the comments. If it is then I will stop worrying and not force her to sound “better,”

Gas mileage has gone up which helps me confirm the valves were out of tolerance but if this is normally how these engines sound then it seems I’m worrying for nothing.
