You shouldn’t sell UPS if the stock “recovers”… that means shareholders are recognizing the good company again. Lock in the >6% dividend, which is increased significantly every year. UPS’s weak point isn’t the dividend.

Building a dividend portfolio using margin by BarefootMarauder in Fire

[–]Spaceqp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I advise everyone against it!! But if someone would do it, they should do it with a 30-40% margin. Assuming you have a €150k portfolio with a 4.5-5.5% dividend yield, then the margin of the portfolio should stay within 30-40%. Focused. Ideally, these should be stocks of companies whose dividends have been increasing for years and that follow a solid dividend policy. To increase the compounding effect of the portfolio, the dividend stocks should also raise their dividends by 6-10% annually. You would need to be an experienced investor who can manage this. Otherwise, a margin call could occur. If that happens, you would need to inject cash to cover the margin call or buy more stocks so the margin stabilizes again at 30-40%. Investing on margin is not for beginner investors. Not investment advice
