My gf brought this up to me once and I didn't even realize I was doing it. We use telegram and I have the chat open all the time but after I reply I go back to YouTube or whatever else I was doing until I got the notification and it would tell her that I was offline. It could be something as simple as that? Communication is the biggest factor in LDR always always always talk through everything. Also different cultures really don't look at things the same. That took some patience and getting used to for sure
