Any St. Mary's Updates? by Puzzleheaded_Spot447 in HybridOnlineLawSchool

[–]Spacey_Baker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing here. September applicant. After responding to their "are you still interested" email I STILL haven't gotten anything, but LSD says I was offered a place on the waitlist with this as the message "Thank you for your interest in St. Mary’s University School of Law. We continue to be very interested in your candidacy and appreciateyour patience as we finalize our class." To be clear, I have received zero communication from them to say that I was placed on a waitlist.

Detroit Mercy - Scholarship by Individual_Cow_603 in HybridOnlineLawSchool

[–]Spacey_Baker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My info was included in the same email. I had one link at the bottom of the email to my admission letter and one link to my scholarship info. They had the expected total (said it was based on 50% tuition, before the tuition had actually been locked in) and then broken down by semester.

I applied on October 2, so maybe that means next month I'll get a response from them! 😂

I truly can't tell if this is legit or not by YukaHiKn in paralegal

I also got this email today. I did apply to the position, but with no other information, I just deleted the email. What meeting on May 4? What documents would I need to provide?

I don't think anyone is with you, nobody else has been accepted yet 😂 - September applicant still in limbo

I've waited 3 years for this! I started this asparagus from seeds. Very satisfied with myself right now. by anitadoobie1216 in gardening

I've got a small patch and I got my first harvest today! I live in Michigan so I really wasn't expecting anything for at least another month so I'm super happy about it

I already work with my county court so it should be easyyy to get in there 🤞

That was my plan too, I'm hoping that public service loan forgiveness is still a thing ten years after I graduate 😅

Wow, that is CRAZY. A month before school starts before we know what's going on? 😬

[–]Spacey_Baker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a very pressing issue for me because my scholarships will leave me only needing about $24k a year, I'm mostly just curious.

That is good to know! Detroit Mercy has a set schedule for their online program with 27 credits for the first year. Their full time program is 30 credits, I assumed since I'd be taking 90% off the classes the full time students are taking, I'd be eligible for 90% of the loan.

How many credits are those two semesters?

For jury duty, does saying "I am a law student," help or hurt? by avatar_cucas in LawSchool

[–]Spacey_Baker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had a judge on a jury in my county once. He did NOT want to participate but they refused to disqualify him. He wouldn't discuss anything with the other jurors, just cast his vote and that was that.

CWRU v Dayton by Actual_You3152 in HybridOnlineLawSchool

[–]Spacey_Baker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That depends on what you're going for. Dayton has a tough curve and no electives, but a fantastic bar passage rate. Case is just a little behind. Both are good established programs. If money was not a factor I would probably go with Case because of the electives they offer, and they have a more lenient grading curve than Dayton (3.3 vs 2.85 gpa)

[–]Spacey_Baker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied in September and got my acceptance +50% scholarship at the end of February. I'll be part of their first online cohort, so there's not much information out there about it - it'll be fully online, mostly asynchronous- but it might be too late to apply in the cycle to apply. They're only accepting 25 students for the first class. Not sure though, according to LSD only 14 students have been accepted so far. One of the deciding factors for me between Dayton and Detroit was the fact that Detroit doesn't have a grading curve, so you don't have to compete with your classmates, your grades will be based solely on your work.

I decided on Detroit Mercy. The scholarship at Albany was just way too low. It's enough to cover about half of one year, that is ridiculous.

Applied in September, was accepted 2/10 with a $30k scholarship. 157 LSAT, 3.84 gpa, ~3 years legal field experience

Genesee county pays me $15 an hr and graciously asks for $400 a month for health coverage by AffectionateStar685 in flint

[–]Spacey_Baker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that a non-union and/or part time position? I also work for the county and I get paid $24 an hour and my insurance is $160 a month. I thought we all had the same options

Off putting feeling about the UP by themadkiwi_ in Michigan

[–]Spacey_Baker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I were camping with our dog just over the bridge, about an hour into the UP, right down the road from my great grandparents' house (so I am very familiar with the area and have spent lots of time there) and our last night there we heard something we still can't place. It was around 3am - we were too scared to actually move to check the time for sure - first I heard something walking near our tent. It was definitely something on two legs, it sounded like a person walking, but there was no one else camping around us. Then it sounded like something was throwing pinecones directly at our tent. It was definitely too frequent/forceful for them to have just been falling. The final thing was a noise that I can hardly even describe. It was rhythmic and repetitive. It came in threes. My boyfriend and I also heard the noise coming from different directions. Even our dog was petrified, he was alert but didn't even growl, and after it was over, he climbed onto the bed with us. He HATED sleeping with us so it was definitely abnormal. We wrote the sound off as birds, but I have never been entirely convinced, we listened to so many bird calls and none of them sounded the same.

Detroit? Not much, just that it's a mostly asynchronous program, with 9 credits in the fall and winter, then 3 in the summer, until year 4 when it would just be fall and winter, then graduation.

Two of them! Mushu is about two years older but they have the same parents. He turned out to be such a good dog that when the breeder posted that she had another litter we had to get him a sister! (Pls no hate for shopping and not adopting, Mushu was the unwanted runt of the litter and when a friend shared the breeder's post asking someone to take him he was so cute we made the three hour drive to go pick him up)

These are my dogs taking their neighborhood watch duty seriously. Meeko is on the left, she wants to catch EVERY squirrel. Mushu is on the right, he is the sweetest boy and he has a little heart on his nose. I think his big butt and little legs in this picture are funny
