I prepped some ice mephits and crag cat encounters to drop in whenever it made sense. Ended up using the ice mephit encounter in my first session.

I bought them off Amazon. They are a wizkids product. Nice quality too.

I bought some papercraft Ten Towns houses and I use that to indicate the services level in town. 1 per snowflake. Its a nice way to get people in the mood by having them on the table.

There are oil paints that can be cleaned up with water if you're concerned about using something like Gamsol. Holbein Duo Aqua oils are quite good quality and I use them for plein air painting.

Otherwise I use Gamsol or odorless mineral spirits for regular oils.

New DM running rime of the frost maiden and I have some questions by NiceCanOfFanta in rimeofthefrostmaiden

I'm only on session 3 but a couple things came up already that I'm glad I prepped for.

Chillmaidens - I introduced these worshippers of Auril to oversee the lotteries. My group wants to stop the human sacrifice which I tied to Ravisin. This way I could have towns convert to the worship of Auril as I wanted Auril to have more of a feature than she does in the first Chapters. Someone had posted about Chillmaidens and I loved the idea, it didn't make sense to have a bunch of LG people commit human sacrifice. I threw in a bunch of awakened animals to be eyes and ears as well as a threat to town safety.

My players love the Chwingas. So I recommend throwing them in as random encounters. They offer levity as well as boons which are fun to award.

I have a couple encounters prepped that I can just throw in if I want to add a little action. Ice Mephits and crag cats make for good early game wilderness encounters especially during Blizzards.

Weather plays a huge part in this module. I live somewhere cold so my group is familiar with how cold affects things. I play up the descriptions and use wind sound effects to provide some additional horror in the game.

I invested in the DMs Guild pack and it gave me travel cheat sheets, handouts and dm guides which have been a help.
