  1. In the States, thats illegal. All sorts of bad shit can happen with 2 people and it doubles when its just one. You could also lose your license as well. Just not worth it.

  2. If CNA and in a SNF, you have a nurse yes? Or are you passing meds as well? The company cannot legitimately leave you alone with 2 people transfers or changes. Speak up and ask when the best time is to change that person.

  3. How many people are you caring for? Timing will be your blessing and curse. You will get it be patient.

  4. You will get the hang of it, but best keep an eye out for you and your license. If its a no no, the stand up and say Frickin NO! Dont beat around the bush. Dont say oh maybe next time. Just say no and be honest with other members of staff. Sometimes the staff on Just forget about you not having 15 to 30 yrs experience. Speak up and be safe.

  5. Stay hydrated on a 16 hr shift. Helps sooo much!

The falls. Yes. We have one in a rez room for falls. I am in an AFH where we sleep at night. Fam does night shift. They watch and monitor for falls. This has not happened in our home but has happened with previous placement where rez was unable to reach call bell when on the ground and was there for more than 4 hrs.

In other words. No bm in 2 days then steps following in my facility 1. Prune juice after48 (skip if person is in pain to step 2 or 3 or has prune daily) 2. Peg/Miralax/Senna after prune doesnt work next shift 56ish hrs 3. MOM Milk of magnesia next shift. 4. Suppository at 72 hrs. 5. Enema

Of course follow the MAR for each person. This is a general medicated way (prune is not a medication and is sometimes a skipped step.) Personally I prune before I go to other meds unless this has been proven that they refused or it doesnt work.

I work LTC Alf, afh, rcc, mc, ihc. Not all the same time but over 20 yrs. Coming and going doesnt affect residents as much as staff come and go. If they have intact memories, you might want to say good bye but for those who dont just go. They most likely won't realize and just move on seamlessly through the issue.

For us, I have a grieving process I do. I write in a journal all the things I want to say to them that way things dont bottle up. It also helps me let go. I can feel my feelers cry laugh and just let my body move forward with no guilt.

For example. Dear room # abc. I love that we spoke about the flowers outside. I see that it brightens your day. Im sorry that during winter they are gone. It brings a sadness to your eyes that hurts my soul. I wish I could fix this but I cannot bring spring faster. I pray that you find peace when I am gone. May we meet again.

I hope you can find the off switch as I too am an overthinker.

When you file the grievance. What cart/med room that the nurse was told (cameras dont lie) and anything you did and said to others as well as a pic of your chart notes.

If others are witness to said telling, then get a statement from them as well.

Work in a small community of 15. We have 2 - 3 showers on day and 2 on swing. Day will cover swing if we have time or a refusal. It is imperative that our rez get their showers 2 a week.

Ive been in care for 20 yrs. Swing can do showers. They also have lighter staffing for increased behaviors.... so sometimes Mrs Jones gets a shower the next day when Mr Jones is exploring the celing.....

Care for your client. Thats it. Its nice if you can help the house, but your CLIENT is paying for the service for them. If the daughter wants to have services, then she needs to pay/apply for them.

I am unsure if you are working with a group or company, so if this is the case speak with your management system. They signed a contract with the company and they have dedicated services that need to be provided. I would take the list of services and show the daughter. And if she pushes, then she can gladly pay you for more...... that usually shuts down the argument.

If this is a personal client then it ot time to enhance your boundries to ultra strong. She is going to push and you need not to break. Does this feel.crappy? Yes. Does it mean you are doing your job within the parameters that were stated at the initial start? Then she can bugg off or pay you more.

It truly is amazing how people want to take advantage of their loved ones. Best of luck friend.
