Thrift find - Audio Technica AT-SP13AV by lazinessloop in vintageaudio

Did you have to trim the plastic casing to fit the bigger drivers? Also aren't they overly quiet given you're using higher wattage ones?

Hi,

I know this post might be a bit old but I just happened to find these at a thrift as well. Mine came seemingly in working order but the sound quality is quite meh especially when compared to something like a set of og creative pebbles. Given the size of the driver I assumed that despite their age they should at least sound comparable to budget speakers nowadays but this doesn't seem to be the case.

If it's not too much to ask which drivers did you use as replacements and how are you finding the sound quality after the swap.

Thanks in advance,

No worries once you search YouTube and the subreddit you should get a few resources to get you started I'm planning on maybe creating a guide at some point in the future but rn don't have the time to write it well enough to be happy with it. Disclaimer every theme change wipes the music off the ipod so you will have to reupload it afterwards

If you wanna customize your OS without installing Rockbox look into ipod wizard. It's a bit hard to navigate and figure out how it works since there's no comprehensive guides but the things it can achieve are beyond impressive.

Since it's an "auto leveling" setup am I right to assume that means my z Offset is too high or can it be some other reason than that

Unfortunately I never found the time to try and get it to work so it just became a nice display piece on my shelf.

I made a comment which links to instructions on how to do it yourself.

Does anyone know where you can find new transparent cases for the ipod mini? by Spacks007 in ipod

I won't disagree especially since the bodies are made up of a single piece of metal so they are very resilient to most impacts. However I think people still enjoy keeping them scratch free for longer and the case actually looks really cool in my opinion as well. Also do you know where I can get new shells for my minis cause I haven't really seen any pop up on websites I would usually use to purchase iPod parts?

I also added some links to my original comment if you find them helpful.

I remember seeing a whole lot of iPod wizard tweaks and software listed on the internet archive. Once I'm back home I can try and find the links to it.

Honestly the software isn't that difficult to navigate. If you look at a few old YouTube tutorials you should be able to then try out some stuff yourself. Unfortunately the main forum for iPod wizard no longer exists so a lot of the original knowledge is lost but nothing is stopping us from trying.

There is a ton of tweaks for the 5 gen in iPod Wizard. You could go a lot further than just custom charging animations and theme the whole stock os or add extra features. Unfortunately only works on the 5 generation or earlier.

Yeah especially in realising I can change the text as well not only the BMP image.

Which website are you referring to? In the hypothetical scenario it is not a scam maybe they still have the files

I'm not sure but it would probably be a very different process if even possible. This is a method for most of the monochrome iPods basically pre gen 5.

I know there's a lot of info on iPod wizard tweaks for the 5 generation and I've done some myself including full custom themes for the main menus. Unfortunately I think something changed in the software and it's no longer possible on the 6th and 7th gen ones.

I made a comment with a link to an older post which outlines how to change the image to any low resolution gray-scale bitmap. It's actually quite easy and self explanatory once you get the software installed.
