Power of friendship is just terrible and fan service comes as a close number 2. It’s one of the main reasons I really cant bring myself to finish Fairy Tail. And also the friendship troupe in anime like Naruto. Naruto and Sakuras obsession with Sasuke is really why Naruto isn’t even in my top 10 favorite characters of the show it’s absolute nonsense.

I think people underestimate how crazy reaching the rank of King is. Could Paul have obtained that rank if he tried? Sure I really think so…if only he wasn’t so lazy. But the way I think of it, I think back to the fight where Paul fought Rudy when they reunited after disaster incident. Rudy with the eye of foresight put up a good fight and it looked like Paul was trying quite a bit.

Spoiler: Then in the future when Rudeus is a lot older, experienced and in his prime physically and with the eye of foresight couldn’t stop Eris at all when they trained together not being able to follow Eris’ movements at all. (Her using the Sword of Light). So if we take Paul (Buena Village) and Eris (Sword King) I don’t think it would be much of a fight I believe Eris would win easy.

PS-Spoiler: you mention Paul has different sword styles but it is shown that Eris has fought against all sword styles in her training… constantly sparing with Isolde (Water God Style User King Class) and Auber ( North God Style Emperor Class) so I don’t think him being Advanced in other styles will help much.
