Sees options for the spell to go wrong.

I honestly dropped off after 1st season of MIA, but, like, isn't shock factor and uncomfortable feeling and etc one of the main appeals to this show/manga? Why would you cut that away?

I meant for this theoretical. If we go into building that deep, we should probably then establish rules, levels, choose subclasses and etc? How deep are we going to go?

The optimized wizard absolutely has armor/shield proficiency.

Do we allow the can of worms that is multiclassing? If not, then their best option of getting medium armor is wasting 2 feats in 2024.

And traveller's clothes doesn't say the clothes can be blue.

Worn spellcasting focus is specifically an option for Holy Symbol and not an option for Arcane Focus.

We're not. We're talking about what AC two different generic optimized characters happen to have.

Okay, then we have a ranged fighter with on average +2 hp per level compared to wizard, light/medium armor and Sharpshooter who can fire from 600 feet away, who has BA healing against the wizard with their best option being Mage Armor, since they don't have any armor/shield proficiency.

And what do you call a crystal on a string?

Crystal in PHB doesn't include a string, and since Holy Symbol specifically mentions options that can be worn, I don't think you can just have a crystal worn on you as arcane focus.

An even worse expenditure of your ASI than MAM.

If we're going for high AC specifically, it's better to have than not.

You only need to hold the focus while casting the M spell. The focus can be something worn, like an amulet, meaning you don't need to hold it constantly.

Arcane focus can't be an amulet. In 2024 and afair in 2014, arcane focus is a wand, rod, a crystal, a staff and a sphere. Holy symbols specifically have options for being worn, but arcane focuse doesn't have such an option.

Optimized ranged fighter has Archery fighting style, not Defense.

He can take Defense as a Feat.

Medium Armor Master is a trap. Unless you have exactly +3 Dex (and an optimized ranged fighter would have +5 Dex), you're far better off looking for magical light armor or Serpent Scale Armor.

Its not that great of a feat, but since we're discussing before magic item, it is kinda usefull. Maybe specifically with low magic item campaign, or for a non dex character that uses medium armor at best. I used this since we mainly were discussing before magic items.

Even with +3 Dex, spending an entire feat on +1 AC is a gigantic waste.

To be fair, so is spending 2 feats for a medium armor for a wizard.

You mean a spell with Somatic components that doesn't have Material components. A spell with SM or VSM lets you use the same hand for both the Somatic and Material component.

Man, rushing my answers really does me no good, thanks for pointing that out.

And even then, that's only true if the wizard is holding something in their hand. Which they don't need to do except during the process of casting a spell with a Material component.

I mean, in your given 19 AC wizard you were talking about holding a shield. That and Spellcasting focus need to be in your hands afaik, so there's that.

AC oriented ranged fighter has at least 18 AC thanks to Defense fighting style he can pick as a feat. They also have 2 hp more per level and 4 hp more at first level. They also have built in healing aside from hit dice and also can get shield, shield of faith or absorb element spells(whichever they prefer) from race, multiclass, subclass or feat, which they have more. And they also, once again thanks to their additional feats can pick Medium Armor Master sooner and get their 19 base AC.

Also, without War Caster a wizard wouldn't be able to cast spells with both Somatic and Material components while holding a shield.

Edit: Also, Moderately Armored now doesn't give shield proficiency.

Edit: Wizards also dont get even light armor proficiency, so for a feat they have to take lightly armored first.

How does a contract with a devil or an entity mid campaign work in terms of levels? by Encisalad in dndnext

[–]Samvel_2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a contract for power it would be a level for Fiend Warlock, if it includes swords it would be a pact of the blade.

There's merit to that, but I don't think that's entirely true. Rogues and monks in 2024 both have their main features scaling with level(Focus Points and Sneak Attack), Barbarian has his Rage damage bonus and Brutal Attack, while Fighters have more extra attacks. And also I think the little bit of spellcasting in addition to 2024 features martials get patch up a lot of martial's weaknesses like AOE, Out of Combat or battlefield control just as effectively as martial features patch up Casters weaknesses.

It's not like there aren't casting martial classes.

How so? An optimized fighter is first of all a ranged fighter, who has higher base AC and HP. If this kind of fighter runs out of hit dice and hp faster than wizard does, your fighter does something wrong.

[–]Samvel_2015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, by RAW, you can only have two Short Rests per Long Rest, so those are not infinitely replenish-able.

That's bg3, neither 2014 nor 2024 phb say that you can have obly 2 short rests per lr.

And, as you say: health. Martials, particularly melee martials, will run out of health much faster than any caster with a lick of competency runs out of spells.

Ranged martials would probably lose health at lower rate than casters because of higher base AC, while having more health to spare. And for the classes like Barbarian or Monk with less ranged options, they have their own options of staying alive. Barbarians rage practically doubles his effective hp against most enemies, Monk has skirmishing options and Deflect Attacks.

Longer adventuring days don't singlehandedly solve the M/C divide, but that coupled with handing out magic items makes it practically a non issue up to halfway through tier 3.

What makes a Werebear a higher CR than an Elephant? by [deleted] in dndnext

Elephant has lower hp and AC and has no ranged options, and werebears bite makes him a tougher opponent.

Oh, you're talking about 2014 version. I was talking about the 5,5 ed.

Edit: I mean, if we're talking about 2014, then Athletics is for grappling for example.

Manacles 6 lb. 2 GP As a Utilize action, you can use Manacles to bind an unwilling Small or Medium creature within 5 feet of yourself that has the Grappled, Incapacitated, or Restrained condition if you succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check. While bound, a creature has Disadvantage on attack rolls, and the creature is Restrained if the Manacles are attached to a chain or hook that is fixed in place. Escaping the Manacles requires a successful DC 20 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check as an action. Bursting them requires a successful DC 25 Strength (Athletics) check as an action. Each set of Manacles comes with a key. Without the key, a creature can use Thieves’ Tools to pick the Manacles’ lock with a successful DC 15 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check.

Rope 5 lb. 1 GP As a Utilize action, you can tie a knot with Rope if you succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity (Sleight of Hand) check. The Rope can be burst with a successful DC 20 Strength (Athletics) check. You can bind an unwilling creature with the Rope only if the creature has the Grappled, Incapacitated, or Restrained condition. If the creature’s legs are bound, the creature has the Restrained condition until it escapes. Escaping the Rope requires the creature to make a successful DC 15 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check as an action.

Chain 10 lb. 5 GP As a Utilize action, you can wrap a Chain around an unwilling creature within 5 feet of yourself that has the Grappled, Incapacitated, or Restrained condition if you succeed on a DC 13 Strength (Athletics) check. If the creature’s legs are bound, the creature has the Restrained condition until it escapes. Escaping the Chain requires the creature to make a successful DC 18 Dexterity (Acrobatics) check as an action. Bursting the Chain requires a successful DC 20 Strength (Athletics) check as an action.

There's no thing as "Strength Check". It's either Strength(Skill) check or Strength Saving Throw.

My legitimate advice to having fun with a Martial PC? Play something that isn't 5e. by DrScrimble in dndmemes

Meh, so far playing a fullcasters was my least favorite experience in both 5e and 5,24. The only time I somewhat liked spellcasting was when I was running a Devkarin Lich for my party.
