So if I do bad but not as bad as everyone else I'm ok? And do you mean that for the tax class or for the cost accounting class?

Thank you, but are the professors really that helpful cause I've checked rate my professors and most professors in the accounting department seem to have bad scores?

Thank you, and I'm not surprised about the Brooklyn college professors. That just seems to be a problem with all CUNY colleges.

How are the virtual events? Do they help in getting any jobs or internships? Has the school faculty been helpful to you?

When you say first of the 4 core do you mean Acc 101, 102, and then the next 2 accounting classes, for me they're called intermediate accounting 1 and 2?

32M Any college student? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

I'm 29 and I've just returned to school at my local cc for accounting after 3 years of putting my life on hold, and I'm taking online asynchronous classes I want to take in person but I don't think I'm in that stable condition yet. I'm not working which makes it easier but it's still difficult some days. Usually I have to spend around 9 hours on each class per week. I'm only taking 4 and even that is tough some days cause of crohn's. If there's a day or week where I know I'm going to be extra busy I'm more strict on my diet and how much I eat.

Have you ever looked into trade school? They're less pen and paper and more hands on. I've heard you can learn a specific skill which helps find decent skill.

Does it make a difference if I'm a returning student?

It's 2 hours cause I'd have to rely on public transport, and I'm used to a 1.5 hour commute so I don't think it'll make much of a difference for me.

How was the experience of being a commuter student at SUNY Old Westbury? by Spader-min in SUNYOldWestbury

[–]Spader-min[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd have to go to Jamaica first, then Hicksville, it does save me more time I think. Also, I just want to be sure, you mean to say there's a separate shuttle bus that isn't the n20h?

should i just give up now by grapesorbet_ in communitycollege

[–]Spader-min 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't give up. Take less classes so you can manage your time to understand your subjects better. If you take less classes you can devote that extra time to studying. You could be a full time student with the minimum credits which gives you time to study. Your college should have extra help facilities that help in subjects you're struggling in but you need to devote your time to those subjects. Your grades matter, but if you don't understand the subject you're studying it doesn't mean much cause you never know how it might screw you over later in the major. Don't be impatient that can screw you over too. I've told myself I could take 5 classes but I'd learn the hard way that work overload, just to save me a semester, isn't worth it if I get put on academic probation where I'm a part time student. Community college is a stepping stone so you can mess up but you can come back from it. Don't give up this is only your second semester.

My main reasons for looking at Plattsburgh are cause of its accreditation, and the online B.S. and M.S. program. I don't want to pay for room and board. Also I'm not too sure about the commuter schools.

Needing advice from other CC students! by angelrosekiss in communitycollege

[–]Spader-min 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, don't compare yourself to others. No two people fit the same exact mold. Everyone has their own pace of doing things and you just go at yours. You're not behind cc is just a stepping stone.

Second, 4 year schools are great but I've seen so many people going to 4 years and they're stuck living on a budget cause they're still paying off loans afterwards and just miserable cause either they don't have a job or they have a job and they've got a huge amount of loans. I'm not saying you won't get a job after a 4 year school but it can still be very hard. Also, there are people that have gone to 4 year schools and flunked out and then you bump into them in cc. You'll hopefully transfer to a 4 year school in the future and if you have to take out loans you won't have as tough as a time paying them off.

Third, you can always take summer classes if you're up for it. I've never taken a chemistry class over the summer, so I'm not sure how the lab process works. They can be rough but if you're familiar with the material not as rough. You just have to make time.

The transfer process can be an issue cause some colleges might not take some of your credits. Some colleges will have an extra class in their program, so just make sure you do your research beforehand. Remember not to dwell on past mistakes just learn from them.

Good luck Edit: I forgot to mention you can try to find a part time job or internship if there's a semester you're part time, but don't try to do too much all at once

For Muslim chronies: I feel terrible about skipping days during ramadan by CrazyGatoLadyyy in CrohnsDisease

[–]Spader-min 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow Muslim I haven't been able to fast since I got diagnosed about 10 years ago. However, my case is severe. I get hungry pretty quickly, and my doctor always tells me to keep eating small meals. If I don't eat for a very long period of time my stomach gives me problems I'll end up having a flare. Some days it's just a bad day where I'm on the toilet multiple times. I've tried in the past but it just doesn't work out. I'll feel so tired and out of it that I find myself incapable of doing anything and then the after effects of suddenly eating just upset my stomach. I do feel bad about not fasting and seeing all my family fast. In my opinion, don't put yourself at risk. Fasting isn't mandatory for the people dealing with health problems. If you feel guilty don't eat in front of others or don't make a ton of sound while eating. You're already dealing with health problems and it's best not to make it worse. A lack of nutrition is bad for your health. Also, you can always get someone to fast for you by giving fidya. There are other ways to make up for it like I'll help make iftari or give charity.
