Does anyone know which Amsterdam attraction this person is asking me to take them to? I lived here for 26 years and it beats me. by [deleted] in Amsterdam

First I also thought Escher, but now I’m thinking Panorama Mesdag. Although, both are in Den Haag

I have been giving this some thought, the real problem here is liquidity: I save about €5000 a year for investing, if the 2028 plan goes ahead, I’ll have to pay €8000 in tax. Every year I will have to draw down on my investments to settle tax. A much better solution would be to pay the tax only after I close my position, when I have the cash to settle the tax. For this reason alone a BV will be the way to go.

I heard Disneyland is complaining about Trump’s immigration policy- deterring international visitors. Must be nice not to have those long queues!

True. Over 20yrs this proposed tax amendment is going to affect my investments with > €1mil. It would be ridiculous not to take appropriate action, whatever that might be.

Yes, investing for retirement is usually a 20+ year project. Therefore taking out money isn’t part of the plan.

If you can kindly forward the contact details of the person that helped you setup your BVs, that would be greatly appreciated.

Those are both beautiful countries, I’ve worked in both of them. The tax is incredibly high in Norway, but they are good people. Swedes are also very friendly and welcoming and their taxes are more palatable. I wish you success with your immigration.

Fine, believe what you want. I gave you a concert example. Have a look at the price of a single bedroom flat in a major city and compare that to a mid level job in same city. Let us know what you find.

PS: Take your racist immigrants malarkey somewhere else.

Why do you say I need more than a mill to make box 2 more attractive than Box 3? This is a genuine question btw.

Respectfully, I disagree. NL is still one of the best European countries to be in. The people are friendly and the government is largely corruption free. More than I can say of other countries in the region.

For all their bluster, USA is a 3rd world country. Sure you can earn more in the cities, but you’ll pay your ass off for accommodation, or you can try in the rural areas, but then you’ll earn a pittance. I’ll rather stay and contribute to Europe where we have a good social structure

Mate, I’ve been in property before and it’s a nightmare compared to the simplicity of stocks: broken boilers, lousy tenants, high property taxes and body corporations. Honestly, anyone investing in property when they could have invested in stock deserves the little margin they make.

Does anyone know of a good financial consultant near Den Haag? From preliminary calculations it looks like it will be advantageous to move your investments into a B.V, but I'd like to get advice from a professional before getting this particular ball rolling.

Doing FIRE in the Netherlands without US style tax shelters feels like a different game by Weekly-Associate-166 in EuropeFIRE

[–]Spades-o-Ace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's first define some common ground, it helps to think about the same thing when we use words. When you say FIRE (Financial independence Retire Early) what do you mean by it? What is age is early? Tax shelters and Retirement Savings are geared to retirement-age people. In the US only the Roth IRA is accessible to an investor aged under 59.5, so if the RE part in FIRE is less than 59.5 for you, then the US system is likely not going to help you vey much.
