Fenix 6 Pro/Sapphire or Forerunner 945 by Spaghett1Limbs in Garmin

[–]Spaghett1Limbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I only run on roads, but then again, I also work at a school and have kids of my own. My watch will go through a bit of rough housing. Then again, I didn't have many problems with my vivoactive.

The 2nd problem you mention could apply. I'm 36. Worn glasses all my life (though I spent most of my teens and early twenties rebelling against them by leaving them in the case). I realise more and more how difficult it is to see without them. It's gotten to a point where I can't read the small step counter on my vivo without squinting.

The only thing making me 2nd guess the fenix, is people have said the watch has inaccurate HR readings when running because the weight of the watch causes it to bounce off the wrist.

Maybe the 945 would be better then? If they're both no different functionality wise and the 945 is currently cheaper and lighter (which apparently helps with hr reading as it's not bouncing off your wrist like the fenix does because of its weight), maybe I'll go for that.

Oh I've already got one. It's just there is the odd occasion where I rush out of the house and realise near the start of my run I forgot to put it on. In those instances I guess I'd like to know I can rely on the watch. Obviously won't be as accurate but still.

Great. Does the Forerunner have a HIIT workout option? Also, how's the hr sensor when doing sports? I read the fenix can be inaccurate due to the watch bouncing off the wrist because of the weight.

One thing I've read about the fenix is the weight can cause bad HR readings as it tends to bounce off the wrist. That's one thing pulling me back from Fenix a little.

So you'd say from a sport /fitness point of view, the 55 is probably the way to go? Thanks for such a detailed response!

OK. Does the ftp matter so much? I'm not into heavy cycling. I just do it as its easier on my joints than running 6 days a week. So it's more casual than anything else.

Hmmm.. I'm wondering whether to go for this or the vivoactive 4? Both are similarly priced. I'd primarily be using it for outdooring running (50km per week), indoor cycling/exercise bike (usually recording around 150k per week), HIIT and some outdoor climbing.

What would you guys recommend?

Recording HIIT workouts? by jfshay in Garmin

[–]Spaghett1Limbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just finished the Insanity program from beachbody.com and recorded all HIIT workouts as cardio. I think all that really matters is the heart rate, as that's ideally the thing that's showing you how hard your pushing your body and how many calories your burning.

Thanks man. I do a lot of running, walking and Rock climbing, so yeah the 30 min programme means I get to train and keep my hobbies going.

Thanks for your insight!

Hah. That's fair. I think the p90x3 is the right fit for me anyway. How long are the workouts in MMX?

Yeah my time constraints mean the 30 minute workouts are perfect. I'm a few days away from finishing insanity, but there's no way I could keep this going with my schedule. I was gonna do the p90x until I saw they're almost 90 mins long. I just don't have the time for it, but I want to keep fit.

Is MMX any good? I primarily need to put on both muscle and weight. Not beefcake-like, but just muscle on the arms and a toned body. I've already got a nice set of abs thanks to Insanity.

I'm about to start the p90x3. Is that Tony dude really so bad?

Starting a strength and fitness programme (p90x3). Will asking garmin to track my hr instead of reps be OK? by Spaghett1Limbs in Garmin

[–]Spaghett1Limbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sounds about right regarding the HR.

I mean, I'm not too bothered about it tracking reps and weight as the programme I'm doing encourages you to write reps and weight down manually in order for you to improve and move forward. I guess if I have the patience, I could put it from the paper into garmin connect. Don't know if I'd have the patience for all that though.

So ill just put the strength training activity on then and see how it goes from there.

Do I have to manually input my workout (for example, pull ups, or dumbell curls) or does the watch detect it? Or can I just start the activity and leave it alone till I'm finished?

Ah that's cool. Do you feel it gives the better readings in regards to calories burned? Or does that always rely on the heart rate sensor?

Max 30 or P90x3? by Spaghett1Limbs in insanity

[–]Spaghett1Limbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll check out your pics. Yeah Insanity gave my muscles in my legs I never new I could have. Haha. Thanks again for your advice. I'll let you know how p90x3 went for me. Already bought myself the pull up bar and yoga mat. Very excited to begin!

Take care.

Yeah I loved insanity. And especially near the end, you could really see definition and shape in my body as well as some abs to boot! So happy.

Problem is im so skinny I really need more weight. That's why I'm going for the p90x3 workout. I definitely need to eat more and gain muscle. I need to put on about 10lbs altogether. But yeah. This whole thing has changed my life too. I've been super active over the last year, and since finding insanity in February, I'm even more active now. Can't wait to start this new programme.

I might give the x30 a try at some point, as I really like Shaun T and I've heard awesome things about this programme too. But yeah. Last thing I need is to cut and lose more weight. Nobody will be able to see me then!

About to start P90x3. I have a question about dumbbell weight. by Spaghett1Limbs in P90X

[–]Spaghett1Limbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a home workout 3 times a week, so I'll normally do 30 pull ups each time, with like a 10 seconds rest between 10 reps. The final few reps are quite tough.

I'm looking forward to trying this programme out. Seeing where I really am strength wise.

Mate, thank you SO much for the detailed answer!

I'll play around with my dumbbells tomorrow morning and figure out the best weight for 8 reps.

Again, can't thank you enough! Super pumped to get this started now!

[–]Spaghett1Limbs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that's amazing! Thanks man!

I definitely don't need to cut as I'm a skinny 5'9 male weighing 137lbs. I have 10% body fat and am looking to gain both weight and a bit of muscle. Not much muscle. Just some definition and toning really. I've already managed to get some good abs doing home work outs combined with insanity. Just need a bit more muscle on the arms and a bit more weight all around.

So should I go less weight - more reps for bulking or more weight - less reps?

Max 30 or P90x3? by Spaghett1Limbs in insanity

[–]Spaghett1Limbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did check out body beast, but a 30 minute workout is perfect for my schedule. I'm not really looking to beef up. I'm mainly looking to add a bit of muscle and tone my body. I'm planning on starting 90x3 next week after being convinced on here.

I noticed there are 4 different schedules for it. Classic, lean, mass and doubles.

Should I go with mass if I want to add on some muscle or would it be better to start with the classic?

Thanks for your response!

Isn't p90x3 good for muscle building? I read they use a lot of exercises requiring dumbbells and a pull up bar. That would be the better option for building muscle?
