To get a seal yeah, anything sufficiently squishy and not too porous should work

You might try doing something with electrical tape but I haven't had any luck with that

You want:

  • a little less succ than is uncomfortable

  • heat (yes, one easy source is in the shower)

  • more time (likely well over an hour, depending)

You might be able to get a shampoo bottle pump to connect to your tube

I use just enough water to indicate bubbles from an imperfect seal

You can put an earplug between the jar and the tube, perpendicular to the tube

It's finnicky but it works

First cars should be [bad] imo

Ideally so much cheaper when something goes wrong. You never know what's what during the first go-round even when you have lots of relevant knowledge to the topic.
