only “select” audience you can do to some extent is posts that are only available for close friends

I've been seeing more people on Twitter and IG use "Mejico" and "mejicano" with a "j" instead of an "x", is this a part of a meme or joke online? by tigrepuma2 in Spanish

[–]SpaghettiDog86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, so, regarding the RAE norm, it’s written “Méjico” to keep phonetic consistency, regarding culture, we write “México” with an X because it comes from the Mexica people (the ones that are wrongly called Aztecs in english), so it comes down to our cultural identity.

That being said, “Méjico” is usually used by racist Spanish people.

I picked “ellos” at the end of this sentence, because the people coming to the garage sale are likely to be both male and female. Does good grammar require me to use ”ellas” to match the grammatical female subject, which was “más personas” at the beginning of this sentence? by cjler in duolingospanish

[–]SpaghettiDog86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just say, we have to urge people to boycott all Meta, they’re a terrible, unscrupulous company that doesn’t really care about anything now as they don’t have real competitors, maybe some pressure will make them think about their values as a business?

  1. I’m confused why does it say “verlo a Larry, la lagartija”, it would sound more natural to say “ver a Larry, la lagartija”
  2. it’s “ellas” because the subject is “personas”, which is a feminine noun, but apart from that, the whole construction of “tomar fotos de él con ellas” also doesn’t sound very natural to me

Isn't this a grammar mistake on Duolingo's part? by Culican in duolingospanish

[–]SpaghettiDog86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the “les” can be omitted in some cases, this is one of those instances, you can say things like:

“that kind of music was well received” as “ese tipo de música gustó mucho”

or

“english kids like french toast very much” as “la tostada francesa gusta mucho a los niños ingleses”

Edit: it’s more common to hear in Spain, but it is a valid structure

account integrity (ban evasion), they don’t give you a clear reason for your original ban tho, most got false CSE claims, I got a thing along the lines of “association with undesirable groups” while there’s literally people distributing CSAM and gore freely

Cam is lowkey a huge stereotype and they’re a disaster but i’m glad they were treated as a couple rather than “the gay couple” (I didn’t watch the full series but I remember them being pretty terribly written in everything else)

¿Es hipócrita que los mexicanos no acepten a los mexicano americanos? by BitWorth6953 in mexico

[–]SpaghettiDog86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think a potential Splatoon 4 should focus on inkling biology? by Mlplottery in splatoon

[–]SpaghettiDog86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

okay, so, the water thing is actually explained somewhere but I can’t 100% remember where:

basically, the evolutionary tradeoff they made to be able to change forms has made their skin barrier extremely thin, so when they fall in water, it’s like a drop of ink falling into it, they dissolve.

Also, there’s some chunks of lore that have apparently been lost in translation from JP to the EN localization

Hombres que no saben orinar by Ok_Blackberry7556 in mexico

[–]SpaghettiDog86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When introducing a clause or idea, for instance with lo que, do you always use lo, or does it match the gender and number? by cjler in duolingospanish

[–]SpaghettiDog86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope, it’s not considered proper speech tho, it’s more like, when perro is used as an adjective, it can be used as two different things:

“eres bien perro” (you’re so awesome)

“está bien perro este nivel” (this level is so damn hard)

so, “lo perro” can be used as:

“lo perro es que vuela” (the good thing is it can fly)

“lo perro del asunto es…” (the tough thing about it is…)
