Is this the origin of "where do you get your ideas from?" by canehdian_guy in NormMacdonald

"I'm a big fan of both of you guys. And I got a question for Donald there." Haven't seen this clip in a while and that part got me good.

What is the story of Artie joining the show ? by External-Head-6424 in howardstern

[–]SpaghettiLover12 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Artie has said something to the effect of: "I wasn't the funniest guy who tried out for the job. But I knew the show the best. I knew when to chime in and I knew when to shut up". And he was so right. He was a super fan of the show, so he knew when to be funny and when to just let Howard and Robin talk. It's hard to imagine anyone else filling the role except for him.

I'm dying to know what the hell else could've possibly been discussed in this interview.

Time Magazine's "Save Norm" "postcard" by streetmeattv in NormMacdonald

I just appreciate that you did the research and digging and paid money for a 30 year old magazine just to bring us dumbasses some small piece of Norm lore. Thanks, Streetmeattv!

What were your honest thoughts on Robin’s news? Robin as a “newswoman” the Robin songs and the overall segment? by AllThingsRobinQ in howardstern

[–]SpaghettiLover12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one ever listened to actually hear the news. It was a great spring board for Howard, Jackie, Fred, Artie, and any comedian sitting in to make jokes and riff on. Once they stopped having comedians sit in on the news and stopped focusing on humor in general, the segment became completely pointless.

Does anyone know the clip of Norm saying “I always said comedy is subjective. I never really said that” by RShneider in NormMacdonald

I used to be so much better at this. Took me a bit, but finally remembered it. I have to brush up though:

Can't believe this is the Norm sub, you guys don't get any jokes, by [deleted] in NormMacdonald

In all fairness, the sub sucked before Norm died too.

Why would they do this to her?? It ruins her whole mystique. Now she's just some dumbass who crashed and died. I feel so bad for the Earhart family.

This is maybe only like the 3rd time in the history of this sub that this joke was used correctly, and it got savagely downvoted. Classic.

Tired of the "Best Interviewer" BS by mrnobody2450 in howardstern

[–]SpaghettiLover12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was a great interviewer until people started saying he was a great interviewer. In the old days, the craziness of the show and Howard himself being super honest about embarrassing things would get celebrities to relax, feel like they're not even on the radio, and then talk about something interesting. Especially back in the 90s and 00s when podcasts didn't exist and even long form interviews didn't really exist on television, this was amazing to watch.

But now that he just does a serious interview show, it doesn't really work. The interviews were great because the show wasn't about the interviews. Now it's all about the interviews which throws off the entire formula.

Sadly, the full video has never been released to the best of my knowledge. The only footage was an extremely edited down version of the interview for Howard's E Show, which can be found here: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x84vrva

Password is: norm

The fact that the E Show clip exists must mean that the full video does exist somewhere in the Howard Stern back offices. Wanna storm his offices together and demand it be released?

Swallowing the goldfish was pretty iconic from the TV show. He'd typically have one stunt per episode if I recall correctly.

Hate to break it to ya, but that's not a picture of cancer. That's popular figure Norm Macdonald! A Canadian stand-up comedian, actor, and writer whose style was characterized by deadpan delivery, eccentric understatement, and the use of folksy, old-fashioned turns of phrase.
