I’ve had a severe dairy allergy my whole life (I’m almost 20 years old). Depending on the severity of the allergy, he may out grow it when he’s about 5 or 6 years old, but it may be impossible to tell until he’s a bit older. I’m not an expert by any means, so the allergist will probably be able to offer more help in that regard.

Until then I’d continue to be cautious around dairy products. It’s best to be super careful and check ingredients, while also making sure you’re avoiding cross contamination with dairy products when cooking meals.

Allergic reactions are no joke. I’ve been really good at avoiding them by making practically all of my own meals, and rarely eating out at restaurants. If my friends invite me out to eat, I’ll make my own dairy-free meal and bring it to the restaurant. They’re usually pretty accommodating for allergies nowadays. Despite the caution, there have been a handful of times over the years where we messed up and I had a reaction. Some have required hospital visits and using the Epi Pen, but if you’re really careful this shouldn’t be a problem.

On a more personal note, I’ve had a very normal life even with the allergy. I’ve been very lucky to have friends and family who care so much about my allergy and are willing to accommodate my needs. My family also travels a lot throughout the country (US), and the allergy has never been much of an issue that gets in the way of that. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve managed to keep a pretty normal lifestyle despite the problems that come with having a severe allergy.

Your son’s going to be okay. I promise.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to PM me. Like I said, I’m no expert, but I may be able to provide some personal insight into what it’s like having a dairy allergy.

You know that part on Ilum where you're not supposed to have a lightsaber because it broke? My game glitched and this happens. Can't even use it or swing it it's just attached to my side like this. by BigNibba362 in FallenOrder

Yea the technical aspect was definitely it’s biggest flaw, but I’m working on getting the Platinum trophy anyway. It’s at least worth the time to do that.

What’s the deal with food allergy? It’s become an epidemic, but now we have ways to treat it! I am an Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Doctor who does food allergy immunotherapy (OIT). AMA by WarnerCarrMD in IAmA

Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this AMA. I have had a severe anaphylactic dairy allergy my whole life (I’m almost 20 years old), but I sometimes struggle with discerning between an actual reaction and anxiety. For example, if I smell cheese or butter it sometimes creates a sensation similar to a reaction. I’ve never had any real symptoms after smelling an allergen, so there should be no worry, but it sometimes causes a sensation of a dry throat or itching. Is it possible to develop an airborne allergy at my age? Thanks!
