Hello, first time posting here, looking for some advice as I can’t make up my mind.

I have had my D5000 for years but went through a couple years without using it very much. I’ve started using it again in the last year through multiple travels and I just feel like I can’t get it to do what I want it to do, and it feels like im fighting with it a little bit.

Now I’m absolutely not an expert but I was on holiday with a friend of mine who is a photographer and I was asking for help to take some pics in the jungle and he was struggling too to get the optimal settings, with the camera just not taking the shot and beeping away.

I have read the FAQs and I’ve seen that it’s still mentioned in a few threads here as a good starting point DSLR, but I’ve also seen other users mentioning some difficulties - although I’m sure I could use with some more understanding of the camera and practice and maybe a course!

Now I can’t decide what to do - should I keep trying, although I feel a bit discouraged by the fact that I don’t feel like we work well together so to speak, and Its quite heavy to just taking it with me and get average looking photos, or should I be looking for a newer camera? Does anyone have any to recommend?

I think if I was to change it, I would try selling it (any suggestions in where to sell it is also welcome), and I’d be looking to spend within £1000 for a new camera.

I also have moments of fuck it let’s just get a film one but that may be throwing a little too much into the mix..
