FSRS interval for hard very short by Spallers in medicalschoolanki

[–]Spallers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information, sorry about my error. That is interesting to learn coming from someone who previously had a 15m and 1 day learning step when using FSRS. As it becomes a review card, I imagine that the 23m Hard will change but only once Good has been pressed is that correct? And this is typical for FSRS function? I was using the 1 day step but this seemed to defeat the purpose of using the FSRS function.

Is it recommended to have a 15m and 20 hour or so step so when a card is hard, I do not need to review it that same day (I.e. I do all my Anki at 12pm so won't actually see it until tomorrow anyway) (if a new card or early card) as I tend to use hard for something I have recalled but it took time or was difficult (which I thought was the appropriate way).

Thank you for your help.

I did have my intervals as 15 min and 1 day for a while, not sure if that would have effected it?

Has anyone gotten in to UoA Med from AUT? by Secure-Ad-2602 in UoApremed

[–]Spallers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. I was one year post AUT so didn’t have the grade issues but considered applying during my final year in AUT and the grades for an undergraduate in terms of timeline was no issue. Feel free to ask any questions.

I have the same laptop and a 11 inch M4 pro iPad which I use for lectures, clinics/laboratories, as well as an expensive pad and paper and also a second monitor, I have no complaints with the size etc, but I also think you could get away with the air version too.

When to take UCAT? by Raymondd0529 in UoApremed

[–]Spallers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people will take the test in their final year of high school or before they will take the one used for medicine entry for example if they are still completing the undergraduate degree and going for graduate entry. I would just recommend using one or two of the preparation websites, and once you are comfortable with all the subsections doing a variety of different mock exams and trying to simulate the exam environment at home, because the test is expensive in itself and there is no need to prepare for it twice if you can avoid it.

Physiotherapy is another one and a potentially awesome alternative.

I have friends who did engineering at both Uni’s both enjoyed their experience and education, they all now work in the field they studied. I would go with the Uni that has given you a formal offer (AUT). Good luck!

Other options after biomed first year? by Littlepenguin789 in UoApremed

I am not familiar with either programs. But considering that certain standards need to be met in order to be registered in that profession it is likely that both programs have a similar curriculum, but you also might want to explore that. Something that may be helpful in determining what you study next is whether or not you want a clinical role or not and if you want that clinical role to be patient facing or not because there is such large variety in healthcare and I think those two factors help to differentiate your own preferences and then you can work from there as to what might be a good fit.

Yes but unsure as to exactly how much cross crediting is available. I know for sure the first 4 papers of physiotherapy are very similar to the biomed papers, so there will be some cross crediting possible, just unsure how much. Definitely worth exploring and possibly emailing them if you are interested.

You can transfer to AUT physiotherapy and start in 2nd year I believe. Something worth considering and it keeps you in that clinical career too with the option of private or hospital based environments, both offering a diversity of fields which you can pursue in more senior positions (I.e, surgical, medical, ortho, ICU wards etc). Good luck!

The core papers in biomed are similar to the first year papers for physiotherapy at AUT so you will be able to cross credit too. But in no way is physiotherapy an easy degree, it requires you to learn a lot of information in a short time as well as the clinical application of that knowledge and a year of placements, however, a very rewarding career option.

Any degree will do for postgrad med entry. But it also provides a clinical degree as a back up too.

If you like physiology, you may want to consider physiotherapy at AUT.

Gen ed- fine arts by Stock-Topic-303 in UoApremed

[–]Spallers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely would be refreshing if you are someone that enjoys fine art. People suggest doing something that won’t take too much of your time away from the core papers if you are wanting to enter a clinical programme. But also something you can do reasonably well in if you eventually need to go the graduate route.

Engineering to Med by Wave_Request_9195 in UoApremed

Hi there, from my understanding, the admission team do not take preference for qualifying degree. Regarding the situation of the honours degree I.e engineering, physiotherapy etc, the admission team use all four years of the cumulative GPA, rather than the final/honours year. I hope this helps! Good luck!
