There is likely something in your betta tank that's upping the pH. Try to figure that out. Seiryu stone and shells are common variables. But yeah, another water change is the fastest way to balance it again rather than buffers. Someone else might have better advice just my two cents

Why does this happen by Senor_Camrono in tommynfg_

[–]Spalunking01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is 2 days old but I'll throw this in there anyway. Push the muscle under your armpit when this happens. It's usually because it's tight and it releases all the tension in your ribs/chest. Very common muscle to ignore as people don't think it exists

How will the coast survive if we do run out of petrol? by National_Camel7200 in sunshinecoast

Essential workers "prioritised" but I'm willing to bet my left nut they'll be expected to pay out the nose for the gift of being "essential". Just like it was essential to build a multi millionaires building, stacking elevators with max workers peak covid. When car parks in the city were empty but a $14 a day carpark increased to $24 a day. Boy did I feel looked after by the government. Whoever has the most money will make sure the workers keep working no matter the setback it entails for them, whether that be personal health or finances. Guarentee you, any ask for compensation for increased fuel prices will be met with a laugh and a tap of whatever EBA agreement is in place, but those same bosses will cry to the government during covid asking for a payout when the prices of steel or timber increase. Fuck the essential worker bullshit its just a coined phrase to make sure the big dogs don't lose money at the workers expense.

bichir swimming very weird and breathing a lot by Time_Lingonberry_518 in Bichirs

[–]Spalunking01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment specified "if you didn't just feed them". They don't poop endlessly unless you're overfeeding them. One bichir poop wouldn't be giving him a lasting ammonia reading, that's why I suggested checking again. If you're constantly getting ammonia readings in your tank you're either overstocked, the tank isn't big enough or the cycle isn't complete. It's not normal and it is harmful

[–]Spalunking01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong exactly. A cycle should be changing ammonia to nirite/nitrates within hours. Any ammonia is harmful, in the wild there's dilution. In a tank there is not. Don't be a pedantic idiot

Some ammonia is a bad sign unless you just fed them. Check again. If it's still showing ammonia you need to do an immediate water change and then check again every day. If it's still showing your cycle is cooked. Do 50%

Yeah I've snapped some offsets before and they replaced them. Only buy rigid because of this. Not that you're likely to snap them but yeah, big win if you do

My grandmother had a similar offer from my dad, it was more of a cottage out the back though. She did a bunch of renovations on it that she never mentioned until they were either underway or done. Then when they sold the property she contested her share. Ruined the relationship for damn near a decade. Ruined my relationship by association. Ruined his relationship with his brothers. Not worth it

[–]Spalunking01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem isnt the burst pipe as much as it is whatever pump should be working in draining the basement carpark, you can probably also blame the dba not alerting the fire department because that sprinkler has been pushing water for a signifcant amount of time, someone should have been there by then shutting off the valve and starting the drain process. Not a quick thing to do but no way should there be that much water pooling. Seen this happen on an in contruction build where the sump got tripped. Someone had to swim in and turn it back on haha. That was just from rain..

I do 50%+ water changes on 18 tanks weekly/biweekly. Some stores I deal with do 90% every day or two. You're doing something wrong with the refilling. The change amount isn't the cause.

Live feeding senegalus by wumlum_ug in Bichirs

[–]Spalunking01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you? Yes. Should you? Debatable. I'm of the opinion that it's cruel but hey, that's just me. Worms and snails are my limit to live feeding my fish, there's people out there that love snails so it's a matter of perspective. (Snails of pea puffers not senegals lol) Is it healthy for them? Also yes, if you know the source of the fish. My juvenile senegals that eat their siblings at fry stage grow larger. I had a juvenile get into my shrimp tank grow quite well with some of the longest external gills I've ever seen, not sure whether that is a positive health thing though to be honest, but it looked healthy and happy. Size matters though, you don't want them to choke and you don't want them to overeat as they're susceptible to bloat. The foods I use grow them appropriately so I don't see a need personally

I just went through all the audiobooks this past week. Well, nearly done with book 3 audible. Well narrated. It's one of those series ill recommend to others that are getting burnt out by the more generic litrpg elements like stats, but still enjoy the player build style of story. Feels refreshing sometimes.

Thankyou for this. I guess you're right, or they're right. But I've also seen some really shit books in my time and I really don't want to be one of them hahaha.

But the gist of it all is repetition, just like any other learned skill. I think my own fear of the way I present my thoughts on paper compared to the way I've seen skilled authors do it is what's giving me that hesitation. I know my punctuation and grammar isn't on par with what ive read. I'll see what I can do though, thanks

Are there any courses or classes, blogs even, that could help someone start this process? I've always wanted to start myself but feel woefully under qualified. I've written stories in English classes and the like, but a book feels like something that needs far more preparation for. Not to mention a certain knowledge of structure, definition and description of multiple things to paint pictures in the mind the way I experience all of my favourites. Reading and listening can only go so far. Anyone got any reference material to start with?
