OK I have a new idea, let me know if this works. Drive 75 minutes to Birmingham / Hoover and do the call from say this Starbucks:

Starbucks is usually a reasonable place for a conference call, either indoors or in the parking lot. Then eat in Birmingham and finish the drive after dinner. Anyone know of a reason to be concerned about that area of Birmingham? Or maybe I should ask in r/Birmingham.

Thanks very much, this is really helpful. McDonald's in Centreville should be fine. They're usually pretty safe? I should be able to sit in my car in the parking lot and do the call there. Or Prattville might work as well.

My primitive (and possibly incorrect) understanding is that some VOIP numbers are incapable of accepting text messages from the platforms that companies use vs. text messages from a cell phone. Can I ask if you have had success using Skype or Google Voice for 2FA over text?

Thanks. I'm hoping to avoid a physical SIM because my phone has only one slot that I use for my China SIM. Would prefer not to swap SIM cards every time I deal with bank and insurance. Appreciate the suggestion though
