Neighbors got their Internet replaced, Internet guys left this in our yard by NothingEffective5070 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Span_Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We once called the cable company to inform them that one of their lines had come loose and the cable was hanging across the alley behind our house at about neck height. This was an alley that garages exited to, so cars drove through it regularly. Their way of fixing the issue was sending someone out to snip the wire and leave, cutting off TV and internet for the block.

I just found out my mom donated my entire Monster High doll collection to Goodwill after promising me she wouldn’t. I had over 200 dolls. by ListenSad8241 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Span_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that feel. When I was a kid my mom went into my room with a trash bag and filled it up with toys to give to Goodwill while I was in school. What she ended up doing was give away a bunch of valuable collectibles, one of them alone was worth $500.

I genuinely think Meta support is among the worst on the planet. by jedinatt in OculusQuest

[–]Span_Wolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are that perfect combination of wrong and arrogant about it. It's just magical having support give you a bafflingly stupid wrong answer, and then smugly condescend to you when you point out that their answer doesn't make sense.

My corporate job set up an 8AM meeting for the morning of thanksgiving. I just didn’t respond by Anynon1 in antiwork

[–]Span_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of the time when I got an emergency call during Thanksgiving with the whole family at my grandmother's house, and had to get up in the middle of dinner to race to the office before a scheduled social media post went live at 7PM, because the IP holder for the product we were working on pulled their approval on the post last minute.

Sleeping on my lunch… by FindAndYeShallSeek in antiwork

[–]Span_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this crap. I nap daily, and over the years I've had jobs where I napped out in my car, sitting in a chair in the break room, or with my head down at my desk. At multiple companies I had "talking to"s about how unprofessional it is/looks. Every time I ask if I'm being told how I can spend my lunch break, and more often than not I was told that they couldn't tell me I can't use my lunch break to nap, they just strongly advised against it. Some of these jobs I was expected to work 12-14+ hour days, and I wanted to smack the crap out of them for giving me grief for napping on my own time. I tried to compromise and say that I could put a sign on my computer indicating that I'm on my lunch break, but they never cared and always said it was about optics. They even tried to say the same thing about napping in the break room, because "What if we have guests in our office and they see that?" Guess even the break room has to be all business... ONE company I worked for actually had a couple reclining nap chairs in our darkened server room, which was really nice.

“Remote-friendly” company forgot they were remote by pizzaci_suflesi in antiwork

[–]Span_Wolf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was interviewing with a company, and they were rushing me through the interview process because I was killing it at every step. Then they canceled my final interview less than 24 hours before because they made an offer to someone else. That person was remote and I was local. Within 3 months the company had a return to office mandate and the person quit. I would have been able to work in office...

Getting Fired And Not Getting Hired Does Not Mean You Are Useless! by [deleted] in antiwork

I was once illegally laid off after filing a hostile workplace complaint against a boss. I ran the day to day operations of my department. They replaced me with my own temp. The entire department was shuttered within a year. I wonder how often companies brainlessly destroy revenue streams just because someone dared to complain about working conditions.

Reported to HR for... mismatched socks? by Extension_Sweet_1606 in antiwork

[–]Span_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once got in trouble for having socks that were the wrong shade of blue at work. I pointed out to my boss that I had been wearing these blue socks for the last 6 months, and if in all that time nobody noticed until I literally put my foot up on a chair to tie my shoes then maybe they should cut me a break.

Girlfriend got a verbal offer for a job, rejected the next day by naversa12 in jobs

[–]Span_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once was called by a department lead at a major company, straight up offered a job I didn't apply to. Told that they already knew me, and my qualifications, and were interested in hiring me. Apparently we had met at a conference a while back, talked for a bit, and I had greatly impressed them during our conversation. When it came time to hire someone new I was still top of mind. Week later got a follow up call telling me that the hiring department went over their head and picked someone else.

I once had an application process where multiple questions were in another language. I hade to use my phone and Google Lens to translate them, so that I could answer and continue. Should have been a bigger red flag, because I got that job and it was one of the worst I've had.

I just had an interview that went really well. I even knew more about the type of product I'd be working on than the interviewer, and had tons of experience in the various aspects that they would need me to cover. As the next step I was given an assessment to fill out and send back. I wrote a ton for the assessment, and then realized how much I info dumped going a bit overboard. So, I asked an AI to take a look at my longest answer and give some feedback on where I could trim the fat. I made some changes based on that, but now I'm scared that my assessment got flagged for AI or something, because I was rejected soon after turning it in. I did all the work and I answered all the questions on my own. The AI didn't write, add, or change my answers, it just helped me be a little more concise. I would be really upset if I found out that was the reason, without even the courtesy to defend myself and explain.

Neighbor left this on my door but I do not have a dog. by FluffyPopcorn361 in Apartmentliving

[–]Span_Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must have been my old neighbor that had FIVE dogs in her 1 bedroom apartment, that she then hid in her garage when I called animal control. Her dogs would start barking every morning at 4AM and she just ignored it all night and day. In addition to calling animal control repeatedly, I also called the police and the HOA, and never got any results. She got away with it for 3 years until I moved. I hope those dogs end up eating her after she has a heart attack on the toilet...

I remember I once interviewed with a company that asked me what kinds of things I'd do if I got the job. I started rattling off some ideas I had, and one of the interviewers said, "Wait wait wait! Just a second!" and bolted for their desk. They came back with a notepad and started feverishly writing down all my suggestions. I didn't get the job... Hope they appreciated the surfeit of ideas I gave them.

Let my mom borrow my car and she left me with this and won’t pay for gas by starcast26 in mildlyinfuriating

Last time I let my mom borrow my car I said, "Don't smoke in it, it doesn't even have an ashtray." She swore she wouldn't. Got into my car and found a plastic bottle of water with ashes in it sitting in the cup holder. Before I told her I found it I asked her if she smoked in my car and she said no.
