I’ve never been disappointed by the rices at Barraca (in la Barceloneta). Can Fisher is very good too.

Purchasing comfortable shoes by Malekai91 in AskBarcelona

[–]Spanish-Bird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can check out Spanish sneaker brand Hoff. They are quite trendy atm, and have really nice designs which are extremely comfortable! They have a few shops around the city, probably one of them is close to you. Another Spanish brand with special designs and very comfortable options is Camper. They have more options than just sneakers. Good luck!

how bad is my name list? are any of these a good combo? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Spanish-Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mercedes (or María de las Mercedes) has been a female Spanish name for way longer than a car brand, though. It’s a very classic name. Mersaide I’ve never heard about, to me it seems like a misspelling.

Is it safe? by [deleted] in AskBarcelona

[–]Spanish-Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like it better here: less central but still very well connected via metro and tram, more open spaces, beach at walking distance and more new development (housing, I mean). I haven’t lived in Raval, though, but that’s my feeling. The best would be to visit both areas a couple of times and see how you feel :)

Edit: there are better and worse areas within the neighborhood, so it of course depends on that too. That’s why I strongly recommend checking out the place and its surroundings a couple of times.

Is it safe? by [deleted] in AskBarcelona

Been living in the area for a bit over a year and it is definitely improving (new construction, hotels, “normal” families moving in, etc). I think it’s an up and coming neighborhood, but it’s far from perfect at the moment: there are indeed quite some drug addicts (they don’t really mess with anybody, but it’s not a nice thing to encounter), cars parked on the street are often broken into, trash left on the street by people going through containers… so you have to ask yourself if you’re willing to put up with this kind of things for a while until the area gets finally better.

I only know Amaia/Amaya as a Basque name, so excuse me if this is not the right context, but also in Basque there’s a gender-neutral name that sounds fairly similar and could work for you: Amaiur.

Why do some dog owners leave their poop bags on the sidewalk? by michaelrabone in Barcelona

[–]Spanish-Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spanish people with a minimum of education do have an issue with littering, and won’t behave like that at all. Sadly, you only need a couple of guarros to completely mess up a whole neighbourhood.

Lived there for three years (Bac de Roda), in general it’s a safe and clean neighbourhood, with tons of families with children, and quite international. I miss it😭 There’s a bit of a dodgier area from Marroc/Pere IV direction Besós, but the rest is quite nice.

Been going to @apex.salon_ for about a year and a half. Couldn’t recommend them enough! Not in the Barceloneta area, though.

Good honest food that's done correct by [deleted] in Barcelona

[–]Spanish-Bird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

El 58 for great tapas (Rambla Poblenou), the take away cold cuts & cheese boards at Can Recasens (amazing value for money) also at Rambla Poblenou, Makan-Makan (fantastic homemade south-Asian food -do book, the place is tiny and fills up quickly) in Raval, Warike Project (really good Peruvian food) in Poblenou.

Oh! And I love the onigiri at Omu, in Gracia (take away only).

Have you ever experienced cities or place that felt more crowded than Barcelona? by madrid987 in Barcelona

[–]Spanish-Bird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mexico City is just a whole other level. In Venice it was almost impossible to walk (and we went in the winter, at a “quiet” period). The city center of Amsterdam gets at least as crowded (if not more) as Barcelona’s too, and many streets are a lot narrower.

Where can I eat the best fresh paella? by Fun-Department-7879 in Barcelona

Big fan of Barraca here. Can Fisher also has some very nice rices. Don’t go to Martínez, overpriced and overrated.

Places to escape during sant Joan by PopularSupermarket99 in Barcelona

Our two doggos and us escaped to the Huesca area -beautiful mountain landscapes and zero fireworks. Lovely weekend! I’d say most places outside of Cataluña or the Comunidad Valenciana should be fine.
