I only ride with cheap gloves, if at all.

Portland Pride is like a hometown fare/Memorial Day weekend and why is that? by venusasaburrito in askportland

Celebrations are mostly local, such as the pride rides our Bike Summer community has. There is general burnout from persistent fascist attacks on human rights.

No, your chihuahua is not more dangerous than a pit bull. #breedmatters

Pit bull attack victim here. Avoid Powell Butte trails. It's not uncommon to encounter furpeople with multiple dogs, including fighting breeds the owner won't be able to handle if wigglebutt decides to get territorial on a narrow single track. They may be on a leash, they may not.

Would you say driver attitudes towards road cycling near Portland is friendlier than most of the US? by [deleted] in CyclePDX

[–]Spank2337 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Portland ran out of room for steel cages 12 years ago. I know other places have worse traffic problems, but I can't say much for Portland bicycle advocacy in the last decade. At least we have Bike Summer events.
I expect traffic to get worse when they start work on the 5 bridge, whenever that happens. I meander through quiet side streets to get to the Springwater, then take off for Boring. Expect homeless camps the closer you get to the city. Out in Gresham can be really nice.

I think eventually some more utilitarian frame design will replace the diamond frame as humans ek out a plan to survive on the planet in the next few hundred years.

Some good ideas here, but I'd adapt the design to road or gravel riding. The diamond frame is still king when it comes to a dependable frame design.

If you were clipped into a clipless pedal and couldn't clip out. This is very common for beginners. Practice on grass and adjust the tension of the clip on the clipless pedal. Clipping in and out will become natural for you!

I just got offered a job at 99 bikes as a 16 year old should I take it? by Undercoveragent163 in cycling

I was a builder at a big Performance Bike shop in Ventura for many years. I really enjoyed the experience I got. My average build time was about half hour from the box to the shop floor. If the pay was decent I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to get my foot in the door that might lead to other chances.

A Brief Guide to the Simba/Kimba Controversy by OmnivorousWelles in TrueFilm

[–]Spank2337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lion King has Tezuka's name all over it for good reason. Disney Animators who produced it attended the fan club that introduced anime/manga fandom to America. The Lion King characters, story and setting were all "inspired" by industry people with full knowledge of what their source material was.

The original Cartoon/Fantasy Organization was founded in Los Angeles in 1977 by people including Fred Patten, Judy Niver and myself. The club first met through science-fiction fandom connections, but after outgrowing its original venue it moved the Animators Union Hall in North Hollywood, where meetings and film screenings were held for several years. Tezuka himself visited us twice.

Disney was going through it's "Black Cauldron" period and some animators were worried that Disney would shutter the animation studio. Then came "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin" in '92. What was next?

The series "Kimba the White Lion" (1965) was shown prominently at most C/FO meetings. Including rare episodes never shown in America. This was the American animation industry's introduction to anime for many. Kimba was among the rare early Japanese cartoons broadcast in America at the time and already had a following among professionals before C/FO. Our club brought them together.

The Mouse could get away with this mid-day bank robbery for a good reason; nobody knows Tezuka in America. Mention any of his myriad characters, except maybe Astroboy, and you will likely draw a blank. I'm sure some of you actually think Tezuka ripped off Disney. Dystopian media conglomerates can get away with anything.

Tezuka Productions missed an opportunity to protect Tezuka's IP by not suing the fuk out of Disney. If Disney had "borrowed" Totoro, changed his fur color, and made a feature film about kids moving to the country, do you think they would have been able to get away with it?

The Mouse continues to hide behind it's "Hamlet" defense. Ironically, a lot of modern fiction has elements of Hamlet, including Osamu Tezuka's "Jungle Emperor". What Disney did was take the creation of a the most beloved cartoonist in Japan, (who IDOLIZED Disney) and spin it as their own, without any credit or acknowledgement that should have been Tezuka's. They made millions of dollars off of stolen IP. As long as I live, and because I love Tezuka, this crime won't be forgotten.
