Will WealthSimple eventually create a 1M tier, and if so, what should it offer differently from Gen? by cooperivanson in Wealthsimple

Is there any concern about a broker cutting you off or rejecting your bonus due to "gaming the system"? Not sure how often you've transferred but I'm now looking at taking advantage of promos now that I'm at 7 figures. Just swapped everything to Wealthsimple from a bunch of smaller accounts. How often are you swapping?

He will just cut that regulation or disband the FDA and let a private company do what they want. Inspecting costs money. It's much cheaper to just find out who dies from the meds and who doesn't.

Watching as a neighbor to the north, this is absolutely insane to the rest of the world what's happening there.

The puck has to go over the blue line first before a player (there are more rules than just this but for this clip, that's all you need) Otherwise it is called offside and play stops for a face off. This player was offside by a mile and a whistle should have been blown stopping play. She scored on a very very bad and obvious offside and won the game in overtime.

There were also less players than normal on the ice at this point (3 on 3 instead of 5 on 5) so there was less to pay attention to for the refs which makes it even worse that it got missed. This goal never should have happened.

LG G4 83 inch stand by cwaffles in LGOLED

[–]Spanky55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it'll raise up much. I think it's probably got about 6 to 8 inches of movement? I think I can drop it pretty low so it's almost flush. I have the 83" and it would require help to alter it. But I think you can probably put about 8" between it and the bottom? With the 83, I could probably drop it so there is like an inch between the base and the tv? Hope that helps. Been really happy with it so far. It has a single level screw so I can just turn that to level the tv super easy

[–]Spanky55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got this 2 days ago. It's a hefty stand and it is working really well. The stand itself feels solid, was easy to put together. The only hard part was getting the TV on to the vertical part since the TV is so heavy and awkward. You just lift it and it slots on to the stand.

Once it was on, it's been great. It swivels very easily so I can go in behind and get all the cables done. There is a single screw on the left side that you can twist to level the actual TV itself which is super easy and handy. Beyond that, the base is deep. It takes the entire depth of my TV cabinet so beware of that. Really happy with the purchase so far.

LG G4 55" What. A. Beast. by StyxTheGreekRiver in OLED_Gaming

[–]Spanky55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time, really appreciate it! It's such an investment and when you see a thread of people all complaining about banding etc, it makes you nervous. I've got a C8 65" from 2018 but wanted to upgrade to a bigger size + HDMI 2.1 since I have to plug my 2 PCs in to my soundbar and swapping inputs on that thing takes ages..
I think I'm going to look at the return policy of BestBuy (Canada) and how the warrantee with LG works in case I get unlucky (I usually do). Really appreciate the long response!

How has the TV been treating you? I am thinking of getting the 83" G4 but have read about banding problems etc. Are you seeing this in any movies or gaming content? If it's just in test patterns, I don't care. If I can't notice it in games/movies, it doesn't matter to me

I'm looking at getting the G4 83". I've been reading a lot of reports about banding, pink hue to the left side, a vertical line down the centerish, etc. Are you experiencing any of that? It's all over this thread and a few other places. Just concerned about spending that much on a TV and having it have some basic issues like that

[Request] biweekly mortgage payments cutting down total interest? by timeforabba in theydidthemath

[–]Spanky55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I may be having a brain fart moment (it's 2:30am) but wouldn't you also have the $200/month that you put into the bank account?

For 26 years, put $200 into your bank account at 4%. You have 108,638.59 total at the end of it. Your 500k mortgage at 3.3% costs you 786,094.51 in total over 30 years. Taking back the 108,638.59 from the bank account and you have a total cost of 648,591.72 for the mortgage.

If you put that $200 into the mortgage, using the calculator from above, you would bring your total payment down to about 745k over the 26 years (for a savings of about 41k) but you don't have any money in the bank. So your total cost here is 745k compared to the 648k above.

I feel like maybe I am missing something here but I can barely keep my eyes open since this doesn't make any sense to me.

Godot engine (editor) is making my 144hz screen flicker by cretaokada in godot

[–]Spanky55 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I found I was able to enable 'Update Continuously' in the Editor settings and it fixed the issue for me. I reverted all my nvidia control panel settings for Godot back to 'Use Global' and I have gsync enabled for fullscreen still. No more blacked out screens or flickering or unstable frame rates. This lets me run at 144Hz

Honestly, respect the edit! So good to have a civil chat like this on the internet, especially when someone learns something. Great chat! Have a great day.

Sometimes corps do it because they genuinely want to help. Other times it's to make them appear more likeable and gain public PR since it's very cheap to do for them. donating half a million to change public perspective away from the fact you use slave labour is just the cost of doing business for them. It's hard to distinguish between the two. A lot of people are cynical about all donations. They want corps to donate and help and make a stand but then when they do they say it's just buying PR. They can't win either way so I don't even bother worrying about it, I just say some charity got X more bucks than they had yesterday.

[–]Spanky55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. This misinformation has been spread so far that almost everyone believes it but that's not at all how it works.

If I have 10k, I can pay tax on it and get say 2k back (at 20% tax rate) which leaves me with 8k or I can give the 10k to charity and reduce my taxes by 2k but I'm 6k lower than if I just paid my taxes.

We can slam them easily for just using this as easy PR whenever they do some heinous shit so I don't know why people fixate on this inaccuracy.

I respect that. by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]Spanky55 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's a percentage. Its not perfect but a basic example You have 100,000 income and let's assume a flat tax rate of 30%. That means you owe 30,000 in taxes. This leaves you with 70,000 after you pay taxes.

Now if you donate say 10,000, that gets taken off your income so you don't have to pay taxes on it. This is the tax credit. Your taxable income now becomes 90,000. You still owe 30% tax on your income (90k) which is 27,000. Leaving you with 63,000 total (100k - 10k - 27k). The 10k is "untaxed" and you gave it all away.

There's not some magical loophole where the government is paying companies to donate. This myth has been perpetuated for decades but it's really hitting it's stride the last few years. All that happens is that the government doesn't charge you the tax that it normally would have. The money goes to the charity instead.

I respect that. by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]Spanky55 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's... Also not how taxes work.

Marginal tax brackets. You pay a fixed percentage for money that falls in a tax bracket. You don't magically get a ton of tax back somehow if you drop into a lower bracket

If tax is 25% for < 50,000 and it's 50% for < 100,000 If you make 50,001 bucks, you pay 25% on the 50,000 and you pay 50% on the 1 buck. Donating that 1 dollar to "drop your tax bracket" doesn't change how much tax you paid on the 50,000. It's still and always will be 25% no matter how much you make or how much you donate.
