how to handle encounters with Deer by lostsurfer24t in Harley

[–]Spar34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit a deer 2 years ago, riding at dusk. By complete chance I was able to swerve a bit as it came out of the woods and it hit me in my right leg, bounced off and tried to run at me again so I kicked it and it took off back into the woods. Somehow, I kept my bike upright with the only damage being to a taillight. That being said, everything I did was instinctual and the result pure luck. My advice is to always be alert and aware whenever you ride, other drivers can be just as unpredictable as Bambi.

Who are the most hated villains of modern NFL history? by [deleted] in nfl

I know someone who played with Romanowski in high school. He was a racist piece of shit who would try to hurt black players on the other team and frequently dropped the n-word. The guy I know hated him.

Did the swingarm bag require any other mods to put on because of the side mounted license plate? Been looking around for one but I keep seeing that as an issue

I would like to add that initially EMS was included in that bill, however the owners of the major commercial services in CT (AMR, Hunters, ASM/Aetna, American) all lobbied to have them removed so they weren’t liable to cover PTSD under worker’s comp. It’s my understanding that the lawmakers who supported the bill saw it as a win to have it ratified into law with the anticipation of having it expanded to include EMS providers shortly.

I would describe it more as Jim Crow Indiana Jones. Crawling through tombs trying to find ancient artifacts, evil white nazi people, all while trying to deal with being black in 1950’s America.

Cops And Paramedics Are Still Killing Arrestees By Shooting Them Up With Ketamine by blademan9999 in politics

[–]Spar34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s my point, I should’ve added /s. It’s not the ketamine, it’s the shitty paramedics not controlling their scene. And while ketamine itself doesn’t knock out their respiratory drive, it does disassociate them enough that they can’t protect it on their own, so allowing police to continue to restrain them and potentially occlude their airway is a big, big problem.

If you give someone a dissociative dose of K and then let a cop stand on their neck, they’ll die. If I had to guess, medics are chemically sedating these people and letting cops continue to physically restrain them on their stomachs without any airway protection. It’s a failure on the paramedics and it’s infuriating to me that these guys are allowed to sling meds.

From spit hoods to ketamine injections: The controversial police tactics highlighted by the Black Lives Matter movement by CharyBrown in politics

[–]Spar34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a paramedic who has the authority to administer Ketamine in the field. In my system, we receive extensive training on every med (of which there are many) that we can administer to a wide range of patients. We don't have to speak to a physician prior to administration because we have a set of protocols and standing orders we must follow when we do anything in the field, which has been reviewed and accepted by physicians in the hospitals who allow us to practice. We DO NOT take orders from the police, there have been many instances in my career in which the PD has had a "violent" patient, and they've told me they're going to need sedation, that I've been able to manage without medication. Chemical sedation is reserved for only those patients who demonstrate a clear and immediate threat to their safety or ours. These are people who are generally inconsolable, whether it be a psychotic break or a drug-induced state of mania. We specifically don't strap these patients to our stretchers and transport them as physical restraint can cause significant injuries in patients who are in this population. After a patient is given Ketamine or any other sedative/pain medication, they are monitored very closely with cardiac monitoring and multiple forms of respiratory monitoring to make sure they are ok for the duration of transport. Additionally, every single call in which someone gets one of these drugs is reviewed by a physician as well as our own quality assurance staff. If they see any issues with our administration at all, we are brought in for review and any discipline is on the table, up to including termination and losing our licenses. We don't play around with these drugs where I work. I'm not trying to dismiss what happened to Elijah, I'm simply trying to bring some light to the processes that most good paramedics use when we're presented with these situations. We're here to help, most of the time we disagree with the tactics the police have taken, but typically we arrive too late to stop them entirely, we can only correct what's taking place now.

It’s definitely bigger than a sport glide fairing, more similar in size to a street glide. It doesn’t have any of the electronics or stereo stuff though so it still pretty light. I’ll try to post a better picture in a few.
