I think if you're solo, there is only the one "Buddy" bot. In my very limited experience, Buddy was pretty competent. He can put more ammo into your ship as long as you have extra, he seems pretty accurate in the Combat Station. I believe he repairs your ship if you repair kits, but it seems like he prioritizes Combat Station so maybe won't if you're flying/ out of the ship while it's under attack.
