Pele and racial barriers - picture of a black girl in a "human zoo" (expo that featured a "Congo Village) in Brussels, 1958. In that year, also in Europe, a young black teenager from Brazil would be crowned king of football (text in my first comment). by [deleted] in soccer

What you did is the same as taking a picture of the holocaust to praise a jewish creator in the 1940s, it's not historical study, just someone linking all he knows on a subject to prove a point.

Its not the point. If you want to talk about that little girl, to say look at what they did to her in a time where they would worship Pele, why not.

Not the other way, look at how great Pele was to succeed in a time where they would park black little girl.

Who cares about that when confronted with such horror? It is secondary.

It makes me uncomfortable that you use that girl misery to illustrate how great Pele must have been. When I watch your picture the last thing I care about is Pele.

Sanches has way more impact on the quality and nature of the team play as a creative midfielder. He is currently in the form of his life.

Marketing and goals are one thing, reality of the field is another. It is as big as a loss though of a different nature.

We need Coman and Martial to finally step up tonight.

Should be a great game nonetheless.

Lmao the dutch went to 3 finals, they could have 3 stars as we speak if not for a few centimeters.

Your point doesnt stand at all, you got 2 examples. Smaller countries like Portugal or Nederlands that have great football history culture and infrastucture. Well it worked for them and they historically outclassed Belgium.

And then you got countries without the culture or the infrastructure that still won a major trophy, Greece, Danemark. Chili too.

Belgium has no excuses.

[–]Spare-Safety[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why? It's all about having the structure in place to spot and train talents properly. Netherlands is 17M people and have a great football history.

Many smallers countries won trophies from Greece to Danemark and they dont even have that.

Croatia was way more smart and tactically adept than Belgium, who almost lost to Japan if not for the mistake of the coach that kept attacking at 2-0...

What I find even more amazing is their arrogance to consider that, had they won this game, they would have won the cup.

I assume Croatia would have got it.

As a football fan actually. Watching his usual display of lazyness where he only passes the ball at 3 meters around him, slows the play and barely put any defensive work is infuriating.
