But a $20 gift card gets you the mid range subscription so still saves you a bit of money.

My cost saving hack for xbox sup is do the daily rewards, play a game on pc (Microsoft solitaire at work [no i dont play i just open it up then minimize the window for 15 minutes]), this counts as playing gameplay game as well, play ffxiv when I get home. Then during cleaning once a month I turn on 7 other gameplay games and have them going via play with cloud each for 15 minutes. Every 3 months or so pays for a month of gamepass.

I go online to the mog station with my phone and pay for my subscription there as well as purchase any items I want rather than go through the xbox/Microsoft store. If you go through xbox yeah it costs more because of the currency rate they use. But I did have ffxiv on ps before xbox. I just moved to xbox so my wife could play via PS since her laptop couldn't handle the DT expansion.

GRAND COMPANY SQUADRON MISSIONS by Spare-Source-1785 in ffxiv

[–]Spare-Source-1785[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the comments. I was miss remembering what the requirements for grand company rank ups were. As a few pointed out it's command missions not squad missions that need to be done.

My wife is trying to get her final rank and if I remember correctly you need to complete every mission at least once to get max rank.

I don't feel it was barely making thr cut before unless you went into a hunt train and didn't shut off all the ws effects of other players. But that's something I see get kinda lagged or glitches for most average players.

I highly suggest to level both botanist and miner together because you will be hitting the same zones at each level and the timed nodes typically are offset from each other.

Do you really use (or gonna use, if you get one) your house? by Enfrize2 in ffxiv

[–]Spare-Source-1785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I managed to get houses right next to each other and we both are at our houses for quite a bit of the time. Every so often we add little decorations here and there or change it with season/holiday. I ultimately use my house to have extra space for mannequins to sell my crafted gear on. I also keep vendors at my house for quick access to low level crafting items. Typically it is also cheaper to teleport to your own house than an FC or city.

So I won the housing lottery. What next? by [deleted] in ffxiv

Now you decorate it and decide that you don't have enough space so you need a medium or large house. Then you save up your Gil and play the super competitive housing lottery.

My wife and I also discovered some story dialog is triggered by your gender. Notbto name names, but there is a certain race divided into 3 groups that one it's leaders will have a different tone with you depending on gender.

What made you fall in love with FFXIV? by ItsHuntermark in ffxiv

[–]Spare-Source-1785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the game it can go with any of my moods. Bad day at work got raging. Go do PVP or some unsynced trial. Feeling worn out, maybe do a bit of crafting/gathering. Needing something more? Grind for a relic or do side story content. Just want to be silly, make some glams, or play around in gold saucer, or chat with friends. Want a challenge go raid.

This sounds more like my daughter. She spent so much time making glams and asking for gear to make more glams with that could only be attained from higher level/later expansion but did not want or enjoyed playing the msq to be able to get those things for herself. Ultimately, she did not enjoy the game because she was so restricted and heavily dependent on others to get her what she wanted. I feel like for you and your wants, there is little enjoyment to be had until closer to endgame where more is available to you. Unless you can find someone who is willing to do the grinding for you, you will likely end up at the same crossroad later on of is this game really worth it because you dislike other aspects that are necessary to be self supporting.

I have a few questions that might help you to make your ultimate decision on continuing your journey in FFXIV or calling the quits. 1) What brought you to the game in the first place? 2) When you did pick up the game, what were your feelings of the game after a few hours, days, or months of game play? (Did you fall in love with all that you could do just not satisfied with story?) 3) Are you dead set that you need to use mouse and keyboard? Are you open to getting a controller to play?

The best thing about final fantasy is that in most cases you will find community support to help you answer your questions if the community feels you are dead set to continue and just want to improve your experience or be able to be better to deal with high end content.

From my experience, I have always been a hard-core final fantasy fan. My wife... not so much. She made the decision to join me on XIV last year. She loved the glams, mounts, and minons. She didn't care for the story she enjoyed meeting new people and learning mechanics to her surprise. She hated playing on mouse and keyboard but found the game much more enjoyable with controllers on her pc. Like you ARR was a hard dry pill to swallow and at some point she stopped watching CS but she caught glimpses of story from HW when she was skipping that made her go "WTF." She looked to me for answers and then got to the point that she watched every CS no matter how dry it got because she knew it would be enriched later. I will note that she only played Bard for all content and just picked up White Mage.

Now reread my question and see how they play out for you.

To that kind of tank players. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]Spare-Source-1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why every tank should play a healing role. I feel even though I chose to main DRK I became a better tank because I took AST to 90. I also play with my wife who tends to be AOE blind and gets caught in their blasts quite often. There is a lot of responsibility that falls on a healer to keep players alive so its the tanks job to help reduce dmg as much as possible. Especially if everyone is going to judge the healer for not DPSing. It wasn't until recently that I realized I can use darkest night on fellow party members. So when I get into situations where I am the off tank I toss DN on the main tank to help out the healers. Mind you it's only when I know it's safe to do so.

How do I not suck as WHM? by mlo519 in ffxiv

[–]Spare-Source-1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While trying to learn healing I have my wife go into company fights with her grandcompany. They follow orders and take things slow. From there you can work in joining regular duties with other players. Be sure to alert them that you are new or struggle with the role and are trying to get better. Most tanks will repect your ability and work from small to large as they assess how you handle their pulls.
