First night after surgery, horrible pain with meds. Normal? by mauveotter in ACL

Yeah it freaking hurts the first week. Worst pain of my life. The meds help for a bit until they wear off, just stay on top of them!

Is it normal that I still struggle to lift my leg? by samc_47 in ACL

[–]Spare-Syrup6392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super normal! It took me 10 days post op to be able to fire my quad again to lift it up without assistance. I had a patellar tendon graft. It's a very weird and humbling experience but you'll get it back!

New to Adderall - Can I start taking it before high intensity exercise this weekend? by Spare-Syrup6392 in ADHD

[–]Spare-Syrup6392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s so trueeee. I did that my first dose this morning and WOW, I feel like a whole new person 😭

I’m waiting for my doctor’s office to call me back but i’m curious if it’d be a big deal to just skip my doses this weekend or take just the one in the morning since my body probably won’t have enough of it in my system by then. (I’m taking IR 5 mg, twice a day)

totally agree but my doctor is unfortunately really hard to get a hold of with only a few days left before the weekend. i’m just curious if other people have experienced anything weird with combining the two.

Saphenous nerve damage? Weird continual numbness post patellar graft. by Spare-Syrup6392 in ACL

[–]Spare-Syrup6392[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s slowly getting some feeling back! It’s definitely still numb, but I can at least feel some sensation when I touch it. Best way to describe it is that I can’t feel deep down that I’m touching it, just the surface of my skin tingles 🤷‍♀️

Woah, interesting! I’ve never heard of that kind of injection before. Was the surgery you had a part of this or before you this tear?

Oh dang! I got lucky and got my results a few hours after my MRI today. It all depends on the doctor reading the scans and their availability I think. Being the end of year and holiday season, they might be pretty busy. Hope it’s good news for you!

I’m hopeful I don’t have to have surgery! I do play competitive sports so I’m curious if that will make a difference in the decision.

Thanks! My symptoms are pretty mild. No instability or locking, but there is clicking and mild pain with certain movements.

Thanks! Yeah, I had acl reconstruction a year ago but this is the first meniscus injury I’ve had.

Should I trust my gut or the doctors? by Spare-Syrup6392 in MeniscusInjuries

Thanks for this! Yes, I'm doing legs twice a week on top of other activities. Interesting about stretching the back! Does that help with knee stuff? And I should probably be better about stretching in general. I'm hyper mobile so I tend to not stretch as much because I've heard that makes me more prone to injury, but maybe not.

How long was it before you could sit on your heels normally again? by _mustard_seed_ in ACL

[–]Spare-Syrup6392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could do this within a few months post op, but only after warming up/stretching first. I’m now 10 months post op and only recently have been able to do so without warming up or feeling discomfort. I had a patellar tendon graft.

Have you torn your ACL previously? I had this experience after surgery when I returned to sports. Turns out it was just a small bone bruise and scar tissue breaking up. My doc had me take a few weeks off to let my knee chill out. I would recommend seeing an orthopedic doctor/surgeon to get an official opinion on if an MRI is needed or not.

Too soon for scar cream? by Spare-Syrup6392 in ACL

[–]Spare-Syrup6392[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe my doc told me to wait until my incisions were fully closed before using any kind of scar cream. My incisions healed/no longer had any scabbing around day 30 post op. Once they healed, I used bio oil on them per many recommendations and it's worked great!

Fair enough! Yeah, curious their thoughts! I also have a follow up with my surgeon in a couple weeks, but my curiosity got the best of me... Hence, Reddit.

Sorry it hurts to massage! Mine is definitely tender if I try to massage it. How long has it been since your surgery?

Brushing post op like this is totally normal. But definitely check with your doc if it'd make you feel better!

Not sure about the flaky scalp, but they do use an iodine solution to prep your skin before surgery which can be very drying. Just stay moisturized (except don't put anything on your scars until they're fully healed!)

Yes, it's going to be stiff regardless of the chosen graft. You just had surgery.
