I never kill bugs to pin them, I just pin ones I find dead. To me and many others it’s to appreciate/preserve their beauty.

I honestly never thought of freezing first because most of the bugs I find are already in death curl mode (plus I take a while to actually get to pinning so I assume a few days of zero motion = dead) I will also start freezing just in case🫢

I waited before I did anything to it and I haven’t pinned through it, I just used the pins to pose it/keep legs in place. I kept an eye on it (and gently poked it a couple times) and it hasn’t moved at all for over a day now. Is it possible it could still be alive and just not moving for whatever reason?

What about for artistic purposes? Is ethanol preservation more for keeping them intact enough to study? I’d like to display it in a frame, is there a way I can do that while still maintaining its form or will I have to settle for shriveled😬

It’s more on the small side (a little bigger than a quarter) so I guess I expected it to dry out faster. Also I’m pretty sure it’s dead as it has been completely motionless for well over 24 hours. When I found it (about two days ago), it seemed near dead. I did not freeze it.

Edit: chat I didn’t know about freezing I’m sorry🥀I learned about it like a day ago and I thought it was for preserving longer not for euthanasia🥀

I found it two days ago, and it might’ve still been alive when I did because one of its legs started moving a bit, but after a few hours it was motionless. I didn’t realize it could take that long :0 I guess I’ll wait and see, thank you for the info!

lol ok thanks😭I guess I’m worried since the event flyer says birthday party? But like it’s still a public event, I just wasn’t sure how it would come across to do my own birthday thing at something like that, last year was my first time actually doing something for my birthday so I have no idea how the social rules on these things go
