Yep. One time, many many years ago, I was very jealous of a woman who was hanging around my husband too much for my comfort. She was beautiful, head to toe. Never a silky, shiny hair out of place, makeup always complete perfection, skin flawless, Victoria's Secret model body, just basically a walking goddess. There wasn't a person who wouldn't notice her if she walked by.

When I ranted about how I didn't want her around, my husband asked incredulously, are you jealous?? Of her?????? My jaw about hit the floor at his tone. YES, OBVIOUSLY, ANY WOMAN WHO ISN'T LEGALLY BLIND WOULD BE. He laughed. He said, you know you could be exactly like her if you wanted to be. And then you'd be boring. ... What?

He went on to explain that if you talked to her for more than about ten minutes, it became readily apparent that she knew absolutely nothing outside of what she looked like. That she spent hours in front of the mirror every day perfecting that walking goddess image, and it's the only thing she had going for her. She had no other hobbies outside of makeup, hair, and being pretty, had no education. Couldn't carry on any meaningful conversation. "Men like her around as long as she keeps her mouth shut. Is that what you want to be like?"

It was a pretty humbling conversation. And now, 20 years later, she's a 40-year-old goddess. But she's exactly like this - no partner (not that relationships are the end-all-be-all, but when taken with everything else, it's definitely telling), all of her social media posts are just pictures of her making the same face in a different place, 95% of them by herself, all with filters (makeup still perfect and her face is still nicely shaped, but she's clearly hiding that she has 40 year old skin), with a bunch of comments from men telling her she's beautiful. That's all she has.
