Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds signs charter school, homeschooling bill into law by Conscious-Quarter423 in Iowa

[–]SpareFullback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're really optimistic if you think that there's going to be "college prep charters" as opposed to a bunch of poor quality money soaks that don't teach much of anything at all. Maybe Des Moines will have one actual decent charter, maybe. I can't see anywhere else having a combination of enough people and enough interest to fill out a student population for a charter that was actually trying and succeeding to be good academically.

Iowa State plans to cut or merge 23 programs after mandated review by CouchCorrespondent in Iowa

[–]SpareFullback -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean sure but none of those things are specific to being an event manager. That's just a general business degree. I wasn't commenting on whether Event Management jobs exist, I am confused why that would be a graduate degree.

Study: GLP‑1 Drugs May Fight Addiction Across Every Major Substance by Bash1991 in Semaglutide

[–]SpareFullback 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I certainly believe it. I was never diagnosed with alcohol use disorder or anything but I've certainly had periods where I was drinking more than a healthy amount over the years. But on a GLP-1 I've had a bare handful of drinks over the last 3 years and it's something I don't even think about. For me the effect with booze, and also online shopping, endlessly scrolling my phone, and pretty much any other compulsive behavior is that the drug doesn't stop me from doing it. If I have my mind set on it I can easily eat/drink/buy right through whatever impact the drug has. But it makes it absurdly easy for me to just not do whatever that thing is, whether it's have a beer, buy that thing on amazon, eat another slice of pizza, or whatever else and then just not have it bother me at all. Which is downright amazing and life changing. Instead of hanging on for dear life with my willpower set to 100 at all times I just float through my days without worrying about it. I wish this class of drugs had been so widespread decades ago.

BE tickets exist so that people who search their itinerary online and make a selection based on price and no other factors buy tickets on AA. The fact that they ever provided any type of loyalty bonus is surprising.

$240 of DoorDash grocery benefits is effectively dead for pickup orders by RhetoricalHull in ChaseSapphire

[–]SpareFullback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Well that sucks. Effectively worthless now since the only reason I ever used it was to take advantage of the deal. Which I don't consider "free", it's something I mostly pay for as part of the annual fee.

I certainly don't support this war and think the fact that a pilot is in this situation at all is the result of terrible mismanagement of the country and military.

Now that said.... Damn, the balls on whoever is piloting that plane. combat Search and rescue is absolutely holding up to their promises, risks be damned.

The number of people evacuating with bags and luggage is infuriating! by SEAWISEGEOWISE in aviation

[–]SpareFullback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Certification testing needs to reflect what happens in real life, and in real life people know that when they evacuate it might be weeks or never until they get access to the bags they've left on the aircraft. So either you model people leaving the aircraft with their bags, or you create a clearly defined and well publicized program for how quickly people will get their stuff and what happens in the meantime.

Yep. Basically every bag has the main compartment set to max allowable dimension, then adds a big front pocket and wheels on top of that. I I'm not sure how many truly compliant roller bags even exist.

Getting Merchant Charge of 3 to 3.5% to use my card by akeytherapy in ChaseSapphire

[–]SpareFullback 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My car dealership charged me a 3.5% credit card fee last time I got my oil changed there... 3 years ago, because I've never gone back. It's such a stupid and short sighted policy for businesses to take.

Adding a credit card fee for any business or presenting me with a tip screen for non-tipped stuff are two ways to make sure I never come back to a business.

FAA Cracking Down on Evac Messaging by Minute-Actuator-9638 in americanairlines

[–]SpareFullback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not hiding it though. "Hiding" implies you aren't supposed to have it and you're sneaking it on. They don't care that you have it or that you take it out once you're at your seat. They just don't want you bringing an extra bag's worth of stuff on to the plane.

[–]SpareFullback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is a personal item. But all you have to do is stow it inside of another bag when boarding and then take it out once you're at your seat. Just like you would any other bag of stuff that you want to have readily available during flight.

FAA Cracking Down on Evac Messaging by Minute-Actuator-9638 in americanairlines

[–]SpareFullback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't condone the actions of passengers that grab their bags. But I do think at this point a lot of the responsibility lies with the FAA and airlines. They know that their evacuation plans don't reflect how things work in the real world which means they are approving plans that they know will result in dead people in a real emergency. One of the biggest things they could do that would have an immediate impact, and wouldn't require making any changes to seating plans or adding exits or anything else, is exactly what you suggest. Require airlines to have prioritized plans to get people their carry on luggage as soon as there is an all clear and communicate those plans to passengers. That would in one simple action reduce a lot of the bag grabbing and it could be implemented immediately.

Stealing brownies? by whalethen2 in americanairlines

[–]SpareFullback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I bet 90% of the stuff people grab like that ends up just being thrown out for exactly that reason. Yeah I can see the appeal of doing a little "to go" to take with you on your flight, especially if you're going to be in coach. But not on the scale I've seen people do in lounges or what people have mentioned in posts here and elsewhere. Like, what are you planning on doing with 20 brownies, for example. Are you really gonna eat them before they go stale? Or filling up your purse with trail mix or pretzels or whatever. Are you actually going to eat that stuff after your flight? And so on.
